The Russia-Ukraine war is exposing a problem that doesn’t get that much coverage: the nuclear fuel supply chain. Back in March 2022, President Biden announced sanctions on Russia’s energy exports, oil and gas. But uranium was left off the list. The US can pretty easily turn its back on Russian oil and gas and has and has not been able to pull the trigger on uranium because we rely on Russia for a significant chunk of our uranium. It supplies about 16% of the US’s uranium supply and upwards of that when it comes to the global uranium supply. Nuclear power is a highly contested energy source, but it still makes up about half of our carbon pollution free electricity in the U.S. Right now, the Biden administration is investing a lot of money and resources into its expansion, from extending the life span of old plants to building new ones. #Uranium #RussiaUkraineWar #NuclearEnergy #NuclearFuel #NuclearPower #Seeker #TheVerge Read more: The US Can’t Seem to Quit Russian Uranium 🤍🤍theverge.com/2022/3/31/23003494/war-ukraine-nuclear-energy-uranium-russia-supply-chain The US’s exclusion of uranium from energy sanctions “was very frustrating because we understand that this is part of the Russian war machine,” says Kostiantyn Krynytskyi, head of the energy department at Ukrainian environmental organization Ekodia. That uranium ore found at a Grand Canyon museum isn’t as scary as it sounds 🤍🤍theverge.com/2019/2/19/18232027/uranium-ore-grand-canyon-museum-radiation-safety-health-risks We know that prolonged exposure to one of the decay products of uranium or radon gas in high concentrations increases your chance of getting cancer. But three buckets of ore sitting in a basement or in a closet is a lot different than somebody going down into a mine and working for 30 years mining uranium ore. It’s not just the dose rate, but it’s the total dosage you get is what determines your risk.
Спасибо товарищ Джугашвили ! Спасибо СССР ! Мы 30 лет делали все чтобы потерять ваши достижения, но все равно не все потеряли ! Спасибо Иосиф Джугашвили !
useful video thank you
i guess I am the only one who appreciates the "You guessed i: Frank Stallone.' joke.
Russia should make it double
This is quite possibly the most supplemented video I've ever watched about nuclear power.
Pretty sloppy ,radioactivity could potentially harm alot ,specially uranium ,people should be evacuated from Navajo
🫕💲💵
Another thing the Bidens can sell
Because Hillary Clinton sold our uranium mines to Russia!!
Australia is in the top five suppliers of uranium worldwide.
Between Canada and Australia the supply of uranium should not be a problem for the USA at this current moment in time .....
Environmentalists will watch just 20 seconds of this video and call for the end of nuclear energy while giving ZERO explanation or thought into where we go for energy instead.
or y'all could just use CANDU reactors, which are safer, don't need any enrichment at all, and can be fuelled with natural, straight up Canadian uranium, which is ultra high grade.
The US would rather import resources from other countries, instead of accessing its own. The US used to mine its own uranium but it was disastrous for the environment and local communities rejected it. Since the US prints unlimited amounts of money without economic repercussions, then it becomes much more easier to buy foreign resources like oil,, gas,, timber,, silver,, steel, aluminum, etc, etc, using "magical" money. They export their environmental, social and economic problems and import great benefits using money created out of thin air. It is the most unjust economic system ever created.
Uranium emits alpha particles which bounce off your skin. It's fine to touch, just don't eat it.
i hope putin stops sending it forever, and the polonium they export
Up it to 20% uranium 235 to make it a more efficient fuel urm its still the least efficient fuel IN THE WORLD its so wasteful just to have it fissile out in a plant thats only 35% efficient at BEST
No talk of insitu, SMR, Canadian resources, or the fact we can produce hydrogen and heat pumps for cities?! Who funded this fud? Look at the markets today people who know invest because they realize the future is nuclear actually now is nuclear.
Maybe Russia must depand payment in Rubbles.......
Viste slet i uranium var radioaktive bare som sten. Sad lige at tænkte den ville være sjov at have på hylden. Men springer lige over den ide🤔
