Proper diet, combined with a good fitness routine, can definitely help you reduce belly fat to a large extent. Here are top 5 yoga asanas to reduce Abdominal Fat. Paschimottanasana (Sitting forward bend) Steps: Sthiti: Dandasana. Sit with legs stretched forward, feet together, palms pressing on the ground by the side of buttocks, back erect, chin up and gaze straight ahead. Inhale, raise both the arms sideways at shoulder level parallel to the ground Raise the arms further up as you inhale, biceps touching the ears and stretch the trunk from the coccyx region. Palms facing forward. Exhale, bend forward from the lower back, arms parallel to the ground. Exhale completely, form hooks with index and middle fingers of both hands and catch hold of the big toes respectively. Bend further forward and rest your face on the knees. Keep your legs straight without bending the knees. Hold for 10 to 15 breaths. Release the fingers, come back parallel to the ground. Inhale, come to vertical, as in 2nd position Bring the hands down sideways as you exhale, as in 1st position Return to sthiti. Relax Benefits: Makes the spine flexible, strengthens the thighs. Stimulates the spinal nerves and back muscles. Reduces girth and slims down the waist and abdomen. Good for digestive, gastric and intestinal problems, seminal weaknesses, piles and dyspepsia. Caution: People with chronic constipation, heart ailments, back problems and spondylosis should avoid this posture. Pavanamuktasana (Wind relieving pose) Steps: Sthiti: Lie down on the back with legs together. Stretch the arms above the head, biceps touching the ears and palms facing the ceiling. Inhale, raise the legs up to 45° without bending the knees. At 45° exhale and with inhalation further raise the legs up to 90°. Bring the arms down. With exhalation bend the knees and pull them towards the chest. Hold them with your arms around them. Lift your head, place the forehead or the chin on the knees and breathe normally 10 to 15 times. With inhalation bring the head on to the ground, releasing your arms. Straighten both the legs to 90°. Exhale, lower the legs to 45°. Inhale here, lower the legs further down till it touches the ground with exhalation Relax in Savasana. Benefits: Helps tone and strengthen the core muscles and helps rid of abdominal fat. Increases the circulation of blood to the internal organs of the body. Helps to get rid of any gases that are trapped in the large intestine. Loosens the spinal vertebrae and strengthens the muscles of the lower back. Helps massage the reproductive organs and pelvic muscles. Good for menstrual disorders. Caution: Hernia patients and those who have recently undergone abdominal surgery, injury in the spine or sciatica and pregnant women must avoid this posture. Kumbhakasana (Plank pose) Steps: Sthiti: Vajrasana Stand on the knees and place your palms in front of them at a comfortable distance With wrists, elbows and shoulders in line with one another stretch your legs behind staying on toes. Let the neck be in line with the body, not dropped down or raised up. Contract the abdominal muscles and hold the whole body in line, without bending the knees or lowering the waist for 10 to 15 breaths. Drop your knees down one after the other and sit back on your heel, touching the forehead to the ground as in Balasana. Relax Benefits: Helps in toning the core muscles, including the abdomen, chest, and lower back. Strengthens the arms, wrist, and shoulders. Strengthens spine muscles. Caution: Those suffering from injury in the arms or wrists, legs, including the upper leg at the thighs must avoid this posture. Also, those suffering from low or high blood pressure should avoid this pose as

If your knees are sensitive, kneel on extra padding. Make sure your knees are hip width apart and thighs are perpendicular to the floor. The soles of your feet should face upward, toenails touching the floor. Place your palms on your hips and try to keep your outer hips as soft as possible. Breathe deeply. Bala Asana (Child Pose) - Balasana, also known as child's pose, is a resting pose practiced in the fetal position. The name is derived from the Sanskrit words "bala" and "asana", which translate to "child" and "pose" respectively. Its main anatomical focus is the thighs, although it is useful in relieving back, shoulder, neck, and hip strain. If performed with an open mind, the full-body, gravitational pull of Balasana is sure to induce users with a great sense of physical, mental and emotional relief. Sharabha Asana - Lie on your stomach with legs stretched, and feet together, chin resting on the ground. Keep both your hands under the thighs.While inhaling, slowly lift both your legs upwards and stretch as far as possible without bending the knees and toes. Retain this position for some time and then, while exhaling, lower your legs slowly and bring back to the original position. Kukkriya Asana - Sit in Vajra Asana with the weight of your body firmly on both heels. Place your palms on the ground infront with your wrists touching your kness and fingers pointing forward. Open your mouth wide and push your tongue out as far as possible. Breathe in and out at a rapid rate with your tongue hanging out of your mouth. After 10 to 15 rounds relax back into vajra asana and feel the blood flow to your abdominal area. Repeat the whole practice three more times.. Derived from Sanskrit, mahat means "great" or "grand," and pranayama means "breathing technique." To perform mahat yoga pranayama, it is suggested to begin in padmasana, vajrasana or sukhasana. The hands are placed on the knees, the eyes are closed, and the breathing is slow and long. Place the right palm on the upper abdomen and feel the breath flow up to the lower lungs. Then place the right palm on the middle of the chest. Direct the breath here and feel the expansion in the area. After a few breaths, place the palm on the upper chest and direct the breath here. Feel the breath flow and the expansion of the area here. Now place the palms back on the knees in gyan mudra. On an inhale, direct the breath first to the lower lobes of the lungs, following up to the middle and upper lobes. Reverse this direction on the exhale. Targeting primarily the legs, it is the perfect antidote to relax and stretch the muscles of the legs. This yoga pose will relax your body, mind and soul that will comfort your tired feet. Adho Mukha Svanasana - Downward Facing Dog Adho Mukha Svanasana posture replicates a dog bending forward, hence the name downward facing dog pose. This asana can be practiced by any beginner too and with all its benefits, one should include it as a part of daily yoga practice. It is a standing pose and mild inversion that builds strength while stretching the whole body. Uttanasana - Intense Forward Bending Pose The name Uttanasana (Uth-thA-nA-suh-nuh), known as the Standing Forward bend Pose, is derived from the Sanskrit words Ut (meaning intense), Tan (meaning stretch), and Asana (meaning posture). The end pose leaves in such a position that your head is in a lower stratum than your heart. This enables a gush of blood to the head, revamping the blood cells, leaving you with a sense of novelty. Setu Bandhasana - Bridge Pose In sanskrit ‘Bridge’ means ‘Setu’, ‘Bandha’ means ‘Lock’ and ‘Asana’ means ‘Pose’. The poses look like the shape of the bridge, so this pose is called as bridge pose. This rejuvenating backbend will open your chest up and keep your spine flexible. Setu Bandhasana will also help to prepare you for more intense backbends. Basically this pose is effective in relaxing the body and reducing stress. Sukhasana - Easy Pose Sukhasana, Easy Pose is an asana practised in yoga. Sukh means Pleasure and asana means pose; pronounced As – soo-kah-sah-nah. This pose is best-suited for meditation for both beginners and advanced practitioners. Sukhasana comes from the Sanskrit word Sukham that means easy, pleasure, comfort, and pleasure. People of all ages can do this asana. Paschimottanasana - Forward Bend Pose Paschimottanasana or the Seated Forward Bend pose is a ‘forward bend asana. Paschimottanasana is also known as the Intense Dorsal Stretch pose as it engages the dorsal muscles of the back. “Paschima” means your “back” and “Uttana” means “stretching“. This asana covers the stretching of the whole body from head to heels so it is called as Paschimottanasna. Ardha Matsyendrasana - Sitting Half Spinal Twist Ardha Matsyendrasana usually appears as a seated spinal twist with many variations, and is one of the twelve basic asanas in many systems of Hatha Yoga. This is one of the few poses in the Basic Session that rotates the spine. Most bend the spinal column either backward or forward, but to become truly flexible it must be twisted laterally as well. The movement also tones the spinal nerves and ligaments, and improves the digestion. Halasana - Plow Pose Hala means Plow and Asana means Pose. So it is also named as plow pose. Halasana rejuvenate the inner parts of your body and make it healthy again. This pose gives flexibility to spine as well as strengthens the back muscles. Halasana is one of advanced yoga pose, simple to practice and contains lots of benefits. If you practice halasana regularly then you completely avoid lifestyle diseases like diabetes, obesity, constipation, stomach disorders, blood pressure and menstrual disorders. Janusirsasana - One legged Forward Bend Janu Sirsasana or the Head to Knee Pose is an excellent asana to increase flexibility of the hamstring muscles, back, thighs, hip joints, arms and the shoulders. Janu Sirsasana also soothes the mind and calms the heart. Janu Sirsasana should ideally be performed when the stomach is empty. It is a great stretching exercise for the whole body. The Janu Sirsasana is a part of the primary series of Ashtanga Yoga. It is a seated asana, and it gets it name from the fact that the head touches the knee in the full expression of this pose. This asana is also called the Head-to-Knee Pose. Balasana - Child's Pose This asana gets its name from the Sanskrit words 'bala' that means child and 'asana' that means pose.
