WW2 Training Film for US Soldiers | How to Behave in Britain | 1943

● Please SUPPORT my work on Patreon: 🤍 ● Visit my 2ND CHANNEL: 🤍 ►Facebook: 🤍 ►Twitter: 🤍 ►Google+: 🤍 ✚ Watch my "Military Training Films" PLAYLIST: 🤍 This 1943 educational / training film (originally titled as ‘A Welcome to Britain’) introduces US soldiers to Britain and tells them what to expect, how to behave and how not to behave in Britain during World War 2. The film aims to explain British culture and character. Starting with the ubiquitous pub visit, the film breezes through geography lessons, food, entertainment and traveling on the British Home Front. It was made by the Ministry of Information (United Kingdom) with the assistance of the US Office of War Information. Remarkably the film is not a patronizing propaganda piece like so many other similar productions made during the war. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND / CONTEXT The United States and Great Britain have been firm allies for a century. Their mutually beneficial relationship particularly deepened during World War 2, when the circumstances of war brought hundreds of thousands of Americans through the British Isles. The United States entered the war in December 1941, and American ground forces arrived in Belfast the following month. By February 1942 members of the U.S. Eighth Air Force were on the ground, building towards a strategic bombing campaign. American and British naval and air units cooperated in fierce battles for the control of the Atlantic. The U.S. troop build-up progressed quickly at first to support Operation Bolero, the buildup for a proposed invasion of France. Bolero was suspended amidst concerns that a 1942 or 1943 cross-channel invasion would be premature, and troops were diverted to North Africa and the Mediterranean. In the second half of 1943 the American buildup in Great Britain resumed in earnest. The United Kingdom served as a critical base for American operations throughout the war. U.S. troops embarked from there for the invasion of North Africa in November 1942, and for subsequent operations in the Mediterranean. American units participating in the Combined Bomber Offensive and the air war over Europe were based in England. Great Britain served as the training ground and staging area for Operation Overlord, the massive amphibious invasion of Europe through Normandy on June 6, 1944 – D-Day. Over 1,600,000 American servicemen and women were in Great Britain as the invasion was launched. Numbers dwindled thereafter, but as late as April 30, 1945 there were still over 224,000 airmen, 109,000 communications zone troops, and 100,000 in hospitals or preparing to serve as individual replacements. At the height of the American presence in Great Britain, American servicemen and women were ubiquitous through much of the island nation. They built or occupied vast encampments of their own, but also spent time in local pubs and establishments, toured the countryside, and befriended British families. Both nations established impressive programs to bring the two cultures together amicably, and to accommodate and entertain the visitors. Tens of thousands of American servicemen married English women, bringing them back to the United States after the war ended. American Forces Radio Network broadcast from the United Kingdom, bringing music and news from “home” to the British air waves. American Red Cross Service Clubs opened to entertain American servicemen off their bases. Pieces of American life and culture were seen and felt across the United Kingdom throughout the war, and Americans in turn took pieces of British life and culture home with them. What glorious London really was like during WWII (1939-1945) in color! [A.I. enhanced & colorized]

In this film I will take you back in time to London during WWII to show you what this great city really was like back then. This video is made as seen through the eyes of my parents who lived in London during the war. They met each other in 1943 and got maried in the summer of 1945. My father was stationed in London as member of the Dutch Navy and my mother, who was born in London, worked for a large London warehouse . She lived through the entire 5 year war period, including the Blitz that lasted over 8 months as well as the V1 and V2 attacks period. As a red thread throughout this video, the Top-3 comments that are usually made under my videos about old London are addressed in detail. 1. When London was still white, 2. Everybody in this film is now dead, and 3. Not a fat, obese person in sight. Hopefully this video will provide a much better understanding of having to live for 5 years under the constant terror inflicted by the German enemy. Each topic in this video is introduced by a war poster; these were displayed in the streets, stations and tube trains during the war. The topics are: - Introduction - Dig For Victory - Barrage balloons - Evacuation of the children - The Phoney War - The Battle Of Britain - Daily life and the "Blitz" - Women during WW-2 - Food rationing - Mobilisation - The role of the London Underground - The Gasmask period - The Blackout - Incendury bombs and fires - The Americans occupy London - The key players - German V1 and V2 attacks - Social climate - The end of the War - Epilog. If ever there was a place and time wherein people were drawn much closer to each other it was WW-II in London. The need to fight a common enemy and the fact that all classes of society suffered the same effects of war was a strong binding factor. Food rationing affected 99% of the population, houses were bombed indescriminately, including stately manors and even Buckingham Palace. Death and severe injuries came to all walks of life. The war compelled people to support each other and stick together as one nation and one society. Unlike in today's over-protected, money and status driven society with deeply embedded anti-social and selfish behaviour, there was the urgent need to simply stay alive and to help each other in every possible way to survive the war. It drew the best out of people including comradery, friendship, decency, support, love and respect for each other. The fact that people became reliant on each other also encouraged strong cooperation in a military, political, social and economic sense. Many inventions were done to assist the war effort, like the development of radar, code breaking at Bletchley Park and much more. Please read more under my Pinned comment! This has been my biggest project so far. The topic is very close to my heart and has caused quite some emotion during its making. I really do hope you will enjoy it and learn from it. Music: Vera Lynn (rare!) Duration: 60 minutes. Sources: Beeld En Geluid, Archive.org, Prelinger, Library of Congress, British Film Council. This video is not being monetized. Sadly I cannot stop Youtube from including advertisements. The B&W footage from many sources has been meticulously restored, motion-stabilized, enhanced, edited and colorized, among other using the latest video software based on A.I. (Artificial intelligence). Ambient sound has been added where necessary (a first for me...). About half of the sound track has been dubbed because a lot of the original footage was silent or had spoken commentary. The full transcript of my documentary as well as the full (60 minutes) original version of my video can be read and viewed here: 🤍 You may find that some short pieces of the documentary are missing or have no sound (in total about 4 minutes). This is because I had to trim out 5 scenes for which, strangely enough, someone made a copyright claim... Believe it or not, the airraid sirenes were copyrighted! You can watch the uncut version via the above link. *Please note that this comments section is only open to comments that focus on London during WW-II* . If you want to make comments related to race, skin colour, obesitas or make nasty comparisons between London during WW-II and now then you have not understood the objective of this film, i.e. to forget about today but to go back in time to really understand London's history. Kindly respect my wish to keep my channel a pleasure to watch, with decency and respect among all other viewers. If you intend ignore this urgent request then please leave now, sorry!

Rationing in WWII (British Homefront)

At the start of the war, German U-boats began to destroy merchant ships in the Atlantic and the British Government needed to take action to ensure the nation could survive in such times of shortages so that its armed forces and civilian population could continue to be fed. It therefore introduced - Rationing. Become a Simple History member: 🤍 Support us on Patreon: 🤍 Copyright: DO NOT translate and re-upload our content on Youtube or other social media. The Next of Kin (1942) - WW2 UK Propaganda film made by Ealing Studios

The Next of Kin, also known as Next of Kin, is a 1942 Second World War propaganda film produced by Ealing Studios. The film was originally commissioned by the British War Office as a training film to promote the government message that "Careless talk costs lives". After being taken on by Ealing Studios, the project was expanded and given a successful commercial release. After the war and up until at least the mid 1960s, services in British Commonwealth countries continued to use The Next of Kin as part of security training. The film's title is derived from the phrase "the next of kin have been informed" as used by radio announcers when reporting on the loss of personnel in action.

What Would Have Happened If Britain Lost The Battle Of Britain? | Real Fake History | Timeline

In September 1940 the Nazi march over Europe was halted when the brave “few” of the RAF defeated the German Luftwaffe in the skies above Britain. The RAF’s victory in the Battle of Britain was a turning-point in the Second World War, fatally weakening Germany’s airforce, dealing a psychological blow to Hitler and laying the groundwork for the Allies’ return to France on D-Day 4 years later. But what if Britain had lost in 1940? In the first episode of a new series, historians and experts will explore what might have happened if history had turned out differently. British WW2 Reenactment - Battle of Baakhoven 1944 / Echt - Susteren

Hello my good friends! Here i am again with a new video, a reenactment! I know a lot of you really like these reenactment videos, and i've had this question before ( Can you do British? ) Well.. guess what.. here's a British reenactment video! i usually reenact German and U.S., so this was the first time British for me! It was exactly 75 years ago since this part of the Netherlands ( Echt - Susteren - ) was liberated. We were reenacting the Battle of Baakhoven, and a lot of people gathered to witness it! Also something unexpected happened just before the reenactment.. you just never know what you're gonna experience on days like these! I'm also gonna pick up my Double Decal SS helmet tomorrow, i can't wait! Anyways, i really hope you enjoy this video!! :) Follow me in Instagram: 🤍 My email: goldeneaglemilitaria🤍gmail.com Sara's website: 🤍 Music at 10:34 ( die Vergangenheit ) was made for me by a good friend of mine, Alex Beekman: 🤍 🤍 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Chase - Scoring Action van Kevin MacLeod is gelicentieerd onder een Creative Commons Attribution-licentie (🤍 Bron: 🤍 Artiest: 🤍

Under Appreciated BRITISH Tech From WW2

We all know about the famous British planes from WW2. However less known is the very important British tech that made its way into a lot of US aircraft and helped to win the war, and no, I'm not talking about the Merlin engine. Extremely rare, spectacular film about London during WW-II in color [A.I. enhanced & colorized]

London during WW-II like you have never seen it before! This film footage is very rare. It is of extremely high quality in full HD, 1080p. The source is raw footage for an unknown film about London with the working title "Heart of the City". Now press the ´SHOW MORE´ button below please: The various scenes have been motion-stabilized, slightly speed-corrected, enhanced and colorized by means of sophisticated Artificial Intelligence software. The film shows remarkable scenes of bomb damage, close up filming of the release of barrage balloons, anti-aircraft gun positions, traffic at Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, militairy parades in front of Buckingham Palace, beautiful scenes of the Thames during daytime and at dusk, Waterloo Station, and much more. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel! There are already around 200 enhanced and colorized historic films on my Youtube channel. Source: Prelinger Archive Music: Carl Ravell & His Orchestra Note: It was extremely difficult to find copyright-free music from this period. Detailed description (slightly shortened to fit the 5000 character limit), based on Hugh Rainbird´s great contribution to identifying all the locations: 00:00 South side of Westminster Bridge looking over to the Houses of Parliament. Probably blitz-damaged St Thomas's Hospital on the left. 00:37 Buckingham Palace with "Guards" in Khaki uniform. On Sunday 18th June 1944, a German V1 flying bomb fell on the Guards' Chapel in Wellington Barracks on Birdcage Walk, just a few hundred yards from the Palace, during Morning Service. 121 soldiers and civilians, including the presiding Chaplain, were killed, 141 were seriously injured. 00:58 The "Upper" Pool of London from London Bridge, river Thames. 01:16 Cigar shop near Piccadilly Circus, corner of Coventry Street and Great Windmill Street 02:16 Trafalgar Square. All the art treasures form the National Gallery at the top of the Square had been removed to secure storage sites in mines and caves at the outbreak of War. 03:12 Back to the "Upper Pool". 04:09 "Blitz" bomb damage in the City of London. Many of these "bomb sites" were still there, overgrown with vegetation and weeds in the early and mid 1950's. 04:20 Holborn with St Andrews church. 04:48 Back to the Piccadilly Circus cigar shop, and you can see the covered-over statue of "Eros" far left, to protect it from war damage. Looking towards Regent Street. 06:08 Looking across the River Thames from the Embankment to the "Shot Tower" on the left and the "Lion Brewery" on the right, on Waterloo''s South Bank. The brewery, together with a lot of bomb damaged slum housing, would be swept away to make room for the 1951 "Festival of Britain" site, but the Red Lion statue now stands at the bottom of the entrance to Waterloo main-line railway station in York Road. 06:25 Great Windmill Street, near the famous Windmill Theatre 06:50 More "Blitz" damage near Christ Church Greyfriars (still in ruins today) 07:15 "Blitz" damage in the City near Tower Hill. 07:40 St. Paul's Cathedral: Christopher Wren's masterpiece stands almost undamaged among the "blitzed" buildings. 08:04 More "Blitz" damage near (Location?) 08:45 A barrage balloon Goes Up in Westminster Gardens near the Houses of Parliament. The Balloon fabric" was a hard-wearing material with many uses in much demand in "austerity Britain" after the War! 09:36 Women's Royal Army Corps personnel being instructed at an Anti- Aircraft battery in Hyde Park. 10:10 Might not be a gun, but a range-finder used to determine the altitude of a hostile aircraft. 11:10 Piccadilly Circus. Eros is "unclothed" and the motor vehicles and dress look pre-War. This footage is from the 1930´s. Apologies for overlooking this. 11:29 Trafalgar Square. 12:04 Hyde Park Corner, maybe pre-War. The railings haven't been taken away to "build Spitfires", and Speakers' Corner is thriving, which was not allowed during the War. 12:30 Waterloo Station. A "king Arthur" Class locomotive brings in an express from Bournemouth or the South West of England. 1930s footage. 13:33 A "Mogul" brings in another train - note the porters hurrying towards the First-Class coaches! Probably pre/war. Rail travel was restricted during the War. "Is your journey really necessary?" and one would expect to see many more people in uniform, Royal Naval personnel travelling to and from "Pompey" and Devonport, as well as "brown jobs", among the passengers. Certainly the Southern Railway wouldn't be advertising "Summer Fares" at the ticket barrier, 15:53 A reprise of "Blitz" damage near Holborn, St.Andrews Church (at a different time of day) 15:58 Policemen near Philip Lane and Aldermanbury Avenue (now "Route-11") 16:04 Another barrage balloon goes up, near the Tower and Tower Bridge (location?) 16:17 Back to Piccadilly Circus, looking towards Shaftesbury Avenue 16:30 VE Day celebrations, this is definitely 8th May 1945. The concensus now is that this war time footage was shot towards the end of 1943.
