We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of "Beethoven's 5 Secrets," combining OneRepublic's tune "Secrets" with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the "bridge" the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from! What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him. Everything you see is real snow and ice. Story behind the song: So who doesn't love a story about an estranged ice princess, a dynamic mountain man/reindeer duo and a snowman obsessed with warm weather? We all loved the movie "Frozen" and its single, "Let It Go." So much emotion, energy and drama packed into one tune. But we thought we'd add a little more drama...by melting together "Let It Go" and themes from Vivaldi's classical piece, "Winter." (You can watch an impressive performance of the original here: 🤍 - see if you can find where we used the main themes from each of the three movements.) Vivaldi's almost reckless string motives helped us surround the determined, upbeat melody and chords from "Let It Go" with intensity and uncertainty. We wanted the music to alternate between "freezing" and "thawing," representing the opposing forces throughout the "Frozen" story. We were extra ambitious about capturing as much definition of the ice as possible so we decided to give 4K a try (a step up from 1080p HD) using the "RED" camera (same camera used in filming "The Hobbit"). So we called up our buddy Jacob Schwartz who rented us his awesome camera set up! It was challenging for Paul and Shaye to learn a whole new system and camera minutes before the shoot, but after awhile started getting the hang of it...:-) Editing the video on the other hand was a whole new process in processing that 4k footage. It took us 4 times as long to edit the video and fix glitches that kept happening working with such large files! After this experience, we might have to give 4k a try again, but not until we've mastered the art of it all which this video got us on the path at least. Special thanks to Ryan Davis and his way cool crew at the Midway Ice Castles for hosting us. They built this winter palace one icicle at a time. Amazing! They were so nice and they really went the extra mile for us. Check the Ice Castles out here: 🤍 Ice Castle Facebook: 🤍 If you've read this far into the description you're awesome. We were brainstorming ideas when one of us (can't remember who!) got off task and starting flicking a piano string. Since all of us are poster children for ADHD, it wasn't long before ALL of us had joined in banging out a beat, plucking a string, or hitting keys. The brainstorming meeting had been sabotaged beyond repair, but another music video idea was born! The song: We went through several song possibilities before landing on "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction. We like this song because it's catchy and the music, lyrics, and video passed our "sesame street" test (meaning family friendly). We thought about the ramifications of taking on a teenybopper boy band tune as five middle-aged married guys who are desperately holding on to their hairlines. One of us even has a son older than the guys in One Direction (we won't say who) :-) BUT you know us we love a good challenge! This one was so fun to write that the "challenge" part of it never was felt. We just acted like kids playing the piano and it totally worked! :-) After we figured out the main "techniques" of playing the piano unconventionally we loved experimenting with swapping out chords and throwing the structure of the song around until it clicked. The location: Where to film? Fitting in video shoots between touring, writing, recording, editing, and spending time with family has always been a challenge. Let's be honest, even getting all 5 of us in the same place at the same time has been a challenge! We had a big sold-out show at the Sandy, Utah Amphitheater. We all determined to be at the show and film the video right on stage sometime between sound check and the performance. Sounds like a good idea right? Well...because of a lot of factors, including weather (we had a huge storm sweep in and knock everything down on stage during sound check) the only time we had to film was between the hours of 2AM - 7AM the morning of the concert. In the video at 2:30 you can see the morning light start breaking we literally played into the sunrise! :-) Many thanks to the awesome guys at Annex Recording and Giles Reaves (engineer) for letting us record at their studio. Check them out at 🤍 Thanks to Sandy Amphitheater 🤍 for letting us film this video on their stage. They were so great to work with and we've performed so many times there the staff are all old friends (especially you, Mearle!) And thanks to Cole Adams, the lighting genius - who hung out all night allowing us to pull an all-nighter to film this. In a world where we too often talk about our differences, we have at least one thing in common. We all struggle. Not in the same way, nor at the same level, but we all want a fighting chance. And we all share in one gift: The will to make the most of our lives. To take what we've been given and turn it into something better could be considered the sentient measuring stick of success. But to do so seldom is simple and more often requires we fight. Not against each other. But against the current threatening to drown the ambition in us. There is a tremendous purpose in struggle. It is when the struggle becomes so fierce that we must fight to swim or sink. John Newton, who penned "Amazing Grace," worked on a slave trader ship and condoned inhuman atrocities. As his ship was on the verge of being torn apart in a violent storm he called out for Grace. Once his feet were again planted on firm soil he determined to change. His covenant was written into these words, "I once was lost, but now I'm found; was blind, but now I see." Grace is the defining moment when we face and fight a monster poised to define us or destroy us. This song and video for us were a struggle, but a beautifully defining one. We chose the Scottish culture to depict the dichotomy between Grace and struggle. Who else is tough enough and yet delicate enough to don a kilt in battle? And the Scottish pipe and drum are the ultimate conveyors of melody and cadence. One represents Grace, the other the indomitable fight. Our dream was to film one of the most iconic castles on the Earth, Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie, Scotland. Grace somehow made this video possible. We had to postpone our trip to Scotland several times, and when we could no longer postpone we had to leap in faith because... This video was filmed at Bryce Canyon National Park in cooperation with the Garfield County Office of Tourism. For more information go to 🤍. Thanks to Bruce Fullmer and Mark Wade for their assistance in location scouting and project management. See more of Bryce Canyon in this video: 🤍 Story behind the song: Have you ever awakened with a melody in your head and you don't know how it got there? That was the beginning of our PianoGuys' version of David Guetta's "Titanium (feat. Sia)." Paul especially loved this tune he lobbied us to arrange the song, but after we could not find a way to begin the arrangement. Every time we tried it just didn't flow. We also were concerned that the hook of the tune was nothing but the beat :-) and lacked a lead melody, which would make it more difficult to convey with piano and cello. Steve woke one morning and couldn't get a melody out of his head. It was Gabriel Faure's "Pavane" a hauntingly beautiful melody that weaves in and out of richly sequenced harmonies and fluid counter-melodies. It had been a favorite of his as a child, but he hadn't heard it for years. In the studio that same morning we tried the melody over the top of the chorus of David' Guetta's Titanium and it was like witnessing a reunion of two childhood friends. The main melody of the Pavane and its supporting chords, transposed and changed stylistically to mimic Guetta, also fit nicely as the intro we had been searching for. And we thought since Guetta and Faure are both French it must have been meant to be! :-) If you're not familiar with "Pavane" Listen to a version of Bobby McFerrin singing it with La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra: 🤍 (As a boy Steve heard this very version live in concert and it evidently had an indelible impression on him!) Classical music is such a big part of who we, ThePianoGuys, are. You can hear it in everything we write. We love pairing it with the music of today. This was the most difficult music video to set the "stage" for thus far. We considered so many locations a copper mine, a steel mill, an industry factory, a mountaintop ski resort, a wildflower meadow, a desert bluff, and many others. As you know we love putting pianos and cellos in crazy places (a common comment is 'how the heck did they get the piano up there??') places that show off breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. When Mark Wade with Garfield County's Department of Tourism called and offered full creative access to its national parks we abandoned all of our earlier ideas and focused on showcasing Bryce Canyon National Park an incredible place of raw beauty and geological history written in rock. It is a place like no other. We feel so blessed to have been able to film there. This video features a NEW STEEL cello made by Dawson Swan: Thor II with significant improvements over Thor I. It's lighter, easier to play and it looks awesome! Dawson is an incredible artist! Thank you again, Dawson! #thepianoguys #pianocello

Good morning/good night whichever’s applicable to you. This is a 12 Hour stream of a greatest hits 2021 album by The Piano Guys, mellowed down and remastered for the best sleep experience. If you’re a fan of instrumental music or a musician yourself, then the piano guys won’t be needing any introduction. If you aren’t though - lets just say that they are a duo capable of making covers sound better than the original music consistently. It difficult for instrumental music to get better than this, and imagine 12 hours of interrupted listen without having to create or add youtube playlist, that might get interrupted by ads. Studies show that songs below 50 bpm are most sleep inducing. While this isn’t slowed down, in order to retain the original experience, we have added a further layer of mastery over the original edit. Oftentimes, in my personal experiences with sleep music, loud songs of an album have interfered with my sleep especially if it’s fast paced, which resulted in me having to either switch to a different video or just sleep without any music at all. I have made sure that the entire album has been equalized so the loudness of the entire album is almost the same throughout. Don’t forget to like this video and subscribe to my channel if you’ve woken up refreshed. #ThePianoGuys #pianomusic #pianoguys #PianoMusic #12Hours TRACK LIST: 01. Someone You Loved 02. We have to admit-this journey took us a lot further than we expected. Retracing our steps reveals several factors that made this a reality. As we started arranging it we had serious writer's block. Perhaps some of the worst we've ever had. In fact, one day instead of writing we went around the entire studio with a can of WD-40 and coated every piece of metal to ensure that we were a squeak-free studio. Then on a whim we decided to back away and take an entirely new approach to the song-an African approach. It may seem random in retrospect, but at the time it was an exciting way to restart the arrangement. It was working, but our journey still was on foot until we called in Alex Boye, one of the most talented people we've ever met. Alex has this contagious energy that gave new life to the song and to us. He sings the tune in 4 different languages: Swahili, English, Yoruba (his mother's native language), and Alex's own African "scat" (we'll call it...Scafrican) =) Most of the words you hear are translated from the lyrics in the original Coldplay Tune. We're huge fans of Alex We bet you are now too! When we had finished the arrangement we all agreed that listening to it was like taking a journey to somewhere remote and ruggedly beautiful. How were we to depict this... READ MORE HERE: 🤍 We'd like to thank from the bottom of our hearts, Duane Fielding who offered the helicopters and SkyHawk 🤍 for not dropping the piano... :-) Half-way through the first day of shooting we discovered that, as typical guys, we had forgotten to bring ANY food or water to this remote location. We had two options: one, wrestle a mountain rodent and harvest cacti or two, starve. Duane, our head pilot, took pity on us. He took off (literally) and moments later landed in a Wendy's parking lot, ordered 5 of everything (sadly, he couldn't use the drive through) ...took off again and brought us chicken sandwiches and hamburgers via airmail. Thank you Duane! Flying in your helicopter was a dream come true for us despite the lack of doors. =) Filming location: 🤍 (Southern Utah) All the instruments you hear are REAL instruments. We wanted to be authentic about this. The following percussion instruments were used: Djembe (drum) Agogo bell (like a cow bell) Udu (the porcelain vase-looking drum) Guiro (gourd scraper) Djabarra (shaker) Rain stick Pangi seed shaker ("goat toenails" or Unas) Credits: Paradise (Mylo Xyloto) by Coldplay written by Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, And Chris Martin; Copyright Universal Music Mgb Songs And Upala Music, Inc. We bring you CELLO WARS! A result of 6 months of production...our most ambitious undertaking by far! Why Star Wars Cello? Because of our unending admiration of George Lucas, John Williams, and the most EPIC movies and film score ever created. The idea originated when Tel Stewart was editing THE CELLO SONG here: 🤍 As a joke he decided to add light sabers to Steven Sharp Nelson's bow during the outtakes. Fans cried out for more. Al van der Beek and Steven Sharp Nelson storyboarded the song and the video concept while they were scouting locations for MOONLIGHT 🤍 But it was Steven Sharp Nelson's son Eli (6) that was the true inspiration for the project his enthusiasm for Star Wars, light sabers, and watching his daddy wield one while playing cello fueled the project continually. We announced CELLO WARS on September 19, 2011 thinking we'd be able to deliver on our promise within a few weeks. We had NO IDEA. 70 days later, more than 7,000 frames, 72 audio tracks, 24 hours of filming through the night in front of a green screen, the most props and costumes we've ever used, several broken bows and strings, and over 1,000 hours of editing and rendering we felt like we had taken on the entire EMPIRE! Tel Stewart is THE MAN. He is the reason this worked. He is the man behind the green screen behind the editing bay behind all the cool effects. He had to edit every single frame in order to make the light sabers work (a total of over 7,000 frames)! We now have a Piano Guys Hall of Fame and he was recently the first inductee. We needed a poetic love story spoken without words, but with melodic motion. Before our last note hardly had time to rest we contacted Charity and Andres, dance world superstars who caught everyone’s attention when they captured the first perfect score on “World of Dance.” We had complete faith in these two artists, to tell the story that needed to be told. It turns out, Andres is likely going to be leaving for 2 years to serve a full time mission for his church. Charity is supporting him in this, but the two are experiencing intense bittersweet feelings regarding their impending partnership’s hiatus. This is the story they told in dance to our music—a story of sadness, of support, of joy, of unity, of strength, of longing, and of unconditional love. The mastery in their choreography is unmatched and has the power to stir up tender feelings for someone you loved. When Jon's 17-year-old daughter said how much she loved this song, Jon decided to try it. He experienced a flood of inspiration. "Never has a piano part come together this fast," Jon says. Steve experienced similar inspiration while composing the cello parts. Since the lyrics suggest a bride walking towards the groom in a ceremony we thought we would include a quote from the Bridal Chorus by Wagner in the climax of the song. (It is carefully disguised). As it seems to always go, Paul and Tel didn't find the spot until they spent 9 hours driving around southern Utah the day before the shoot looking. After getting a little discouraged by not finding anything that great, they just happened to check out a little-hidden spot right near Baker Dam and thought it was perfect for the song. The next morning we all loaded up the piano and headed out there to film, but after getting the Truck and Trailer stuck and waiting for the sun to move, we didn't get started filming until that evening having about 3 hours of light. It was so fun to film and play in the middle of the trees! We started with the Great Wall of China (🤍 As our tour of Brazil approached we set our sights on our next Wonder: Christ the Redeemer. This incredible piece of art soars 10 stories in the air, stretches 100 feet wide and weighs 1.4 million pounds (630,000 kg). But even more impressive is that it was built in the 1920's on a peak of a sheer 2,300 ft. (700 meters) cliff overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Not far from this inspiring statue are the Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil a natural Wonder of the World. Made up of 275 waterfalls that stretch across 1.7 miles (2.7 km), to match the amount of water that flows down these falls you would need 2 million people to each pour a quart of water every second. As we //consIdered\\ what piece of music would be worthy of such incomparable locations we looked to songs that have been composed or used to praise Jesus Christ, for whom the statue was built and who billions believe created all the natural wonders of this world. We wanted to combine the melody of the heartfelt hymn of praise "How Great Thou Art" with one of the most beautiful melodies ever written the theme from the movie "The Mission" ("Gabriel's Oboe.") "The Mission" is a movie that powerfully depicts the lives of men that lay down their lives for others. It was also filmed at Iguazu Falls. "How Great Thou Art" praises God and all that He has done for His children on this Earth. The two harmonize so beautifully with each other, both musically and thematically. As we played these pieces in front of the Christ Statue and Iguazu Falls we felt an overwhelming sense of wonder, peace, and joy. This music video is not meant to exclude anyone that does not believe in God. We hope that it instead promotes spiritual feelings that can be felt by all gratitude for a beautiful Earth, for life, and for joy. A wise man once said, "If we thought of life as a gift, we might not demand nearly as much from it. And if we lived more graciously, giving of ourselves more freely to the well-being of others, many of our personal concerns would disappear, and life would become easier for all." We respect all beliefs and opinions, but we hope that in the comments everyone can set aside religious differences and instead focus on building each other up through gratitude, inspiration, kindness and mutual respect. Thank you so much for watching! We are grateful for you! They took their best shot at owning us all this past year. And we did our best to put mind over matter and power our way through it. The human mind is a marvelous thing. It has limitless capacity for thought, creativity, wonder, and resilience. It is like a musical instrument expressive, emotional, expansive, and transformatively challenging to master. And yet, it can only truly hold tightly to one thing at a time like a cello can draw out a thousand different feelings from focusing on one note at a time. That’s why fear can’t coexist with faith, doubt crowds out hope, worry pushes away peace, and uncertainty won’t share any space with contentment. We believe music is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. We’ve always insisted on how underestimated it can be. Music can persuade the mind to change moods, trade mental despair for motivation, or even push our physical frames beyond a presupposed capacity. Before this album project began we were sitting around a table together ruminating over all that has happened this past year. As we talked about what was “next” for TPG, we went through several scenarios. Then, suddenly, there was this tidal wave of insistent ideas. A rush of collective revelation. We knew what kind... As we started arranging this cover, the song came alive when we found a destined matchup in the melody from Gustav Holst's classical piece "Jupiter"-a deep melody that rang out when layered on top of everything we were creating for this arrangement. To make a long studio-story short, it all came together after that. ALL sounds were created by acoustic & electric cellos (5 different cellos) and piano. By the time we were finished we had used 60 tracks. In this arrangement we borrowed a melody from Gustav Holst's "Jupiter" Suite from "The Planets" op. 32 be sure to listen to his original composition it's amazing! The melody we used comes in about half-way through the piece. Check out our Top 10 videos! Why? It's a great excuse to be extra nice to each other. =) ... And we love Christmas music, lights, presents, and the excitement of our sleepless children anticipating the advent of Christmas day. We know there are many out there who do not celebrate Christmas or believe in what it may represent. This song is not meant to exclude anyone. We hope this song is an opportunity to reflect on everything we are blessed with in life family, a beautiful earth, a place to rest our head, the warmth of the sun. The lyrics of this piece speak of being "ransomed" from captivity. In general terms, at some point or another in our lives we find ourselves at the receiving end of a "ransom" a rescue by someone or something even as simple as a note from a friend, a hug from a child, a much-needed vacation, or the unconditional affection of a loyal dog. That is what this song represents to us. People may define the "rescue" moments in life differently, but the meaning of the moments remain the same. To many, including us, the story of The Savior is the sweetest and most priceless "ransom" of all. To Him we dedicate this song. And with this video we wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a bright future filled with "rescue" moments. We love you! A thousand THANK YOUs to John Garbett and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for allowing us access to their beautiful Jerusalem Movie Set where this was filmed. We felt transported to the Holy Land as we played music and filmed there. It was an incredible experience. And many many thanks to Marshall McDonald, an incredible friend and example who co-wrote this arrangement. [Refrain] O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free Thine own from Satan's tyranny; From depths of hell Thy people save, And give them victory over the grave. [Refrain] O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer Our spirits by Thine advent here; Disperse the gloomy clouds of night, And death's dark shadows put to flight. [Refrain] O come, Thou Key of David, come, And open wide our heavenly home; Make safe the way that leads on high, And close the path to misery. [Refrain] O come, O come, great Lord of might, Who to Thy tribes on Sinai's height In ancient times once gave the law In cloud and majesty and awe. How could we resist filming our next video in the land of Aloha beautiful beaches, green mountains, and fresh pineapple?? We went to our Founders and Facebook fans to ask what song they wanted us to play there. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was the nearly-unanimous response. But you know how we are ... we couldn't "just" do this tune by itself...so in the studio we found a made-in-heaven matchup in the timeless melody from the Shaker Hymn "Simple Gifts" written in the 1800's (also used by Aaron Copland in his Ballet "Appalachian Spring"). We feel it's an especially appropriate mash-up because of our profound love and respect for the Hawaiian culture a people who are so good at finding happiness in simplicity. As you probably could hear we borrowed a lot of ideas from Iz's version which has become the stuff of legend. This arrangement is, in part, a tribute to him. Getting a piano onto a sandy beach and then onto a big hill in a famous ranch within the SAME day (we only had 8 hours to film) was no small feat. The only thing harder would be to be predict Hawaiian weather, which ended up being our biggest challenge. "We had a little extra help on this one. My mother, Lynne Sanders Nelson a main source of my inspiration for pursuing music passed away early in life from the effects of a brain tumor. She was an incredibly-gifted musician and taught me to play music passionately rather than just playing 'notes' on a page. 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' was one of her favorite songs. We finished this arrangement on what would have been her 70th birthday. Somehow she helped. I miss her so very much, but when I play songs like this I feel like I get to be with her again. This song is dedicated to her." -Steven Sharp Nelson Thank you so much to the Kualoa Ranch who bent over backwards last-minute for us and provided us such a beautiful place to shoot. Like the movie series, its intensity commands attention. We just had to figure out a way to use it. In our usual style, we thought we'd create an "action movie soundtrack" that combined this and a piece of classical music. In the early 1700's Antonio Vivaldi wrote a concerto for an instrument that was then largely "undiscovered" by the music world the cello. Among the first cello solo pieces ever written, Vivaldi was gutsy enough to write it for not only one, but TWO solo cellos and string orchestra. With no "action movies" in the 1700's, this piece was probably the closest you could get to one. It has intense and exciting moments between beautiful lyrical moments. It was this piece, among others, that got Steven (the cello guy) excited about classical music-it was one of the first pieces he played with orchestra. 90% of this tune was written in 3 days. We worked on it day and night because it was so enjoyable to write. This video features Steve's newest cello "Thor." It was handmade for Steven by Dawson Swan out of STEEL. Dawson is an amazing artist. This cello inspired a lot of this music and video. ALL the percussion sounds you hear were created by THIS cello. Thank you Dawson! They'll tell you about what's it's like to play the cello part of Pachelbel's Canon in D. It's the same 8 notes over and over and over again. The good news is, it's easy to memorize. The bad news is you don't know when to stop. There's a rumor floating around that says Pachelbel either died while writing it, never finishing the cello part or that he dated a cellist and it did NOT go well. This arrangement is dedicated to all the cellists that have fallen asleep while playing this song...or at least wanted to fall asleep. Steven Sharp Nelson actually began writing this arrangement while bored at a wedding. Ahem...all the bitter cello-malice aside, Pachelbel's Canon in D (written in the 1600's) has stood the test of time celebrated as the most recognizable piece of classical music. We like to call it the "one-hit wonder of the 1600's." It really is an amazingly catchy piece of music. It demonstrates the musical form of the "canon," when a melody is played and then repeated in a round by other voices. (watch how the melodies are passed from one cello to the next - right to left) ALL THE SOUNDS YOU HEAR WERE CREATED BY THE CELLO bowing, plucking, strumming, and beating the cello any way possible. This arrangement was written before ThePianoGuys posted our first video, "Michael Meets Mozart" - but we hesitated to film it because of how involved the idea was. We've never used "extras" before! So we put it off. And put it off. And then put if off some more. One day Al van der Beek was skimming through our thousands of messages on Facebook and happened to see one with the title "wedding" in the subject line. A woman emailed us about an opportunity to film at a big magazine spread wedding photo shoot. It was perfectthey would have the location, flowers, actors, and even a cake. Everything we'd need. To make a long story short, we excitedly scheduled our video shoot for the same day as their photo shoot, but a few days prior to the day it fell apart. After much discussion, we determined to move forward on faith that we could still work it out. Paul Anderson marshaled all sorts of connections and called on whomever he could and by nothing short of a miracle in a matter of days the wedding was all planned complete with a beautiful location, stunning decor, sharp tuxedos, fancy flowers, a photogenic bride and groom, 60 energetic guests, and an iced cake! The piece at the beginning that is just ending is Steven Sharp Nelson's 4-cello arrangement of "Thanks Be To Thee" (att. to Handel). Download the full MP3 here: 🤍 (TRACK 7 on the album "Tender Mercies") Thanks to our many "cameos" we're reluctantly-proud to admit that this is the first video where you can SEE ALL FIVE PIANO GUYS! Everyone appeared as themselves, except for Jon who got a little carried away with his characters. :) A HUGE thank you goes out to our vendors that made this wedding look so amazing. Please visit their sites and use them if you're planning a wedding! Bell Tower 🤍 Forever More Events 🤍 Bloomers 🤍 Another huge thank you goes out to all our extras, family and friends that sacrificed an afternoon to make our little wedding look the part! Good morning/good night whichever’s applicable to you. This is a 12 Hour stream of The Greatest Hits 2021 album by The Piano Guys, mellowed down and remastered for the best sleep experience. #ThePianoGuys #PianoMusic #12Hours

Here's our version of "Angels We Have Heard on High," with a few other Christmas favorites mixed in. Can you name them all? We wrote and performed this in the same style of our music video "What Makes You Beautiful" 🤍 ALL the sounds you hear were created by different parts of the piano (except the vocals of course). We wanted this to be a fun music video full of "Christmas Spirit." While the video primarily presents the "fun" side of Christmas (complete with cameo appearances by Christmas icons which "helped" us film), we wanted the music to portray what, to us, is the true meaning of the Holiday season. As we wrote it we imagined the "shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night." And how the Angel appeared to them, announcing the humble birth of the Savior of the World. How incredible it would have been when, "suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (Holy Bible, Luke Chapter 2) We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We love you! They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. This album’s journey of a thousand notes began with a single notion. What if “Eye of the Tiger” was a lullaby? We often hear from beautiful people such as yourself that much of our music can be used as a sleep aid. “Counting sheep 2.0” a symphonic prescription for insomnia. In fact, one of our favorite emails of all time was from a brave navy man who served on a submarine. In his letter he talked about his struggle with claustrophobia. Can you imagine? He said he couldn’t get to sleep at night in his shoebox-sized space...until he found our music. Every night he’d don his headphones, hit play and then close his eyes. He said our music would transport him to a place where there was plenty of room for peace of mind. He could finally fall asleep. Stories like this made us want to compose a whole album full of musical melatonin. But not just any old lullabies with cliché melodies and icky toy music box sounds. We wanted to go all out (as we like to do). We wanted to rewrite household “hits” with a thoughtful lullaby filter to see if they could stand up to helping people like you lie down. The result of such an endeavor starts with this tune you’re watching now and will be fully released in October! The album is called “LULLABY” and it is dedicated to our friend, the courageous claustrophobic serviceman; to you parents who tirelessly, and often sleeplessly, love your children into becoming their best selves, praying for them as they sleep; AND to you insomniacs out there whose creative minds refuse to turn off at night. We know how that feels. We hope you’ll support us and buy (or stream) this album and make it part of your nightly routine a soundtrack to sleep by! Thank you from the bottom of our feather pillows for listening to our music, watching our videos and for supporting us. Without you all our dreams would still be asleep.😴 Love, The Piano Guys P.S. When writing a song sometimes you just need a little spark. That catalyst came from a piece of classical music one that had such a "storybook feel" to it that we gleaned inspiration from it: Saint-Saëns' "Aquarium" from his Suite "Carnival of the Animals." It's an incredibly beautiful and transportive piece. You can listen to it here: 🤍 When we were finished we all stepped back and listened as objectively as we could, imagining what sort of story was being told in order to identify the best places to film. When Liszt wrote music, especially for his 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies, it’s like he was piling material from several “hit songs” into a compilation of dazzling, finger-flying feats of melody and harmony. We picked our favorite themes from his staggering Second Rhapsody and wrote them right on top of the sticky melodies and chord progressions from “Something Just Like This.” The idea was inspired by our recent tour, which included a concert in the incomparable city of Budapest, where the model for this match-up was molded. We present, “Something Just Like Liszt!" Video created by Mark Robbins / Doodle Chaos Video production management by Craig Knudsen 🤍 🤍 "Typically I have to stick to public domain music so that I don’t violate copyright. This project was super exciting because I got to work with more current music thanks to the Piano Guys! One rule I follow when I make Line Rider videos is that I have to love the music I’m using. If I don’t, I’m in for a rough time because I have to replay the chosen song thousands of times while creating the track. Thankfully, I loved “Something Just like Liszt” just as much the last time I listened to it as I did the first time. When presented different options for Piano Guys music I could choose from, I immediately was inspired and knew this was the one. The entire track consists of nearly seven thousand synchronized lines which I drew all by hand in the game Line Rider. I lost track of how much time it took me to create the whole video over multiple months, but I do know it took 135 work sessions because that’s how many save files I have. My favorite part is when all 4 riders come together to the same path and travel through the starry night. This section was inspired by the original album art for the piece, and represents how the Piano Guys harmonize together as a team. Thank you to Craig Knudsen for reaching out to me, and thanks to the Piano Guys for collaborating with me. And special thanks to David Lu for his work on the custom character design and implementation." -Mark Robbins (Doodle Chaos) “Something Just Like This” written by Andrew Taggart, Christopher Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, & Will Champion Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor written by Franz Liszt (1811-1886) Produced, arranged, performed, mixed and mastered by Al van der Beek and Steven Sharp Nelson of The Piano Guys Check out more videos here: Adele - Hello / Lacrimosa (Mozart) - 🤍 Fight Song/Amazing Grace - 🤍 A Thousand Years - 🤍 Let It Go/Vivaldi's Winter - 🤍 Beethoven's 5 Secrets - 🤍 Titanium / Pavane - 🤍 What Makes You Beautiful - 🤍 Coldplay - Paradise (Peponi) - 🤍 Story of My Life - 🤍 Jungle Book - 🤍 #thepianoguys #pianocello #somethingjustlikethis #liszt

Late in the year. What started as a small town ambition to sell pianos through social media had shown some promise as a standalone YouTube music video channel. We had a few videos under our belts. We had a handful of subscribers. We were building steam. We were loving it! But one looming, sour-faced, obstinate obstacle stood in the way. Reality. How could we sustain this? How could we keep this pace? We had robbed too much time away from family, day jobs; we were living two lives - nocturnal and diurnal - in an attempt to write music and film videos in every spare second. Our day jobs, including the Piano Store itself, saw a sharp decline due to negligence. Reality hit. It hit hard. Our music videos were not providing near enough to provide for our families, our number one priority. They say that the only difference between a large pizza and a professional musician is that a large pizza can feed a family of four! So we hatched this crazy idea. What if our genesis, as official full-time "Piano Guys," could be "crowd funded?" What if we offered special packages to people in exchange for their support to help us get our wheels off the ground? We launched the "Founders" program. We were cautious in our optimism, but we were completely overwhelmed. The generous support... I have three children that just get giddy during December excited each morning as they get closer and closer to Christmas Day. That excitement is so contagious. I love it. It's the kind of energy and eagerness that keeps you up at night. I wanted to capture that joy and anticipation in this arrangement. People have told me that this reminds them of the Pirates of the Caribbean. Maybe one year the Pirates franchise will make a Christmas special and THIS could be the theme song! Instead of Carol of the Bells it could be titled 'Jack Sparrow of the Bells.' =)" -Steven Sharp Nelson Carol of the Bells attributed to Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen: Traditional English Carol Arrangement written and produced by Steven Sharp Nelson & Al van der Beek Recorded, mixed & mastered by Al van der Beek at TPG Studios Featured on the album "Christmas Cello" Video Producer Paul Anderson Cinematographer/Editor Tel Stewart For my fellow music geeks =) my favorite part of writing this arrangement is the obligatory hemiola due to the meter difference between the two songs one is 3/4 and the other 4/4. I hope you like the way they collide. My second favorite part is the intense canon at the end that creates a cluster-chord feel and dissonant coda finally resolving with the main theme of BOTH tunes. Shooting locations: Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah Little Cottonwood Canyon (Utah) Big Cottonwood Canyon (Utah) Ice Rink at the Gallivan Center (Salt Lake City, Utah) Special thanks to the Security guard at the Gallivan Center for not kicking us off location. And to the random guy(W.D. Johnson), who came along and offered his snow shoe so the cello wouldn't sink into the snow. Check out our Top 10 videos! It’s safe to say that Covid has thrown us for a “loop.” In nothing short of a miracle, last year, before the pandemic showed up, we had determined as a group to take our first break from touring in 10 years and focus on family during 2020. It might have been the first time our plans actually matched up with our reality. We love performing. Touring can be grueling. I dread the inevitable tour-induced insomnia. During a recent tour I was determined to make something of my sleeplessness. My friend Devin, who works in an international ancestry research company, inspired me to dig into my family history. With his help, I found a slew of stories profound stories of my great great grandfathers and grandmothers and how they overcame an impossible past to make our family’s future possible. In my insomnia, during many late nights on tour, I summarized and rewrote these incredible accounts in first person addressed to my children, so that I could read them as our bedtime stories. That way, my children’s heroes would be their ancestors their own kin. The lesson we could learn together was this: If THEY could do hard things then WE can do hard things too. Resilience is inheritable. What does this have to do with this video? Everything. In this music video, we sped through an eerily empty natural history museum and a public library something we could only do during Covid. Why? To prove the same point and send the same message asserted in these bedtime stories. We have grand places like these that you see in this video all throughout our world. They are monuments to human resilience. They house exhibits and shelve books upon books of biographical buoyancy. They showcase hard-earned scientific scenes that serve as the shoulders upon which we stand today evidence written into the very fabric of our earth’s crust of how hard things are what we do. We’re built for them. We’re made for them. And all those that have gone before cry out to us wanting to mean something to someone. To be someone to us. Someone to You. It’s not as much about WHAT is in our past, but WHO is in our past. Our ancestors stand ennobled by their own grit and perseverance earned through things much harder than what we face, not only to inform our future, but also to endow us with much needed strength for whatever is ahead. They’ve earned our respect, gratitude and our commitment to overcome. “When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves.” -Russell M. Nelson If you’ve read this far into the description, you are truly resilient! :-) Post a comment about someone in your family history that you admire.
