Both Germany and the US have agreed to send tanks to Ukraine. Berlin will supply its Leopard II and Washington, the M1 Abrams. After resisting for weeks, Germany finally gave in to political pressure. It's also agreed to allow other countries such as Poland and Finland to send Leopard II tanks from their arsenals. They're considered essential for Ukraine, if it's to take back territory captured by Russia early in the war. But will such new weaponry change the course of the conflict? Global News senior correspondent Jeff Semple and videographer Darren Twiss report from the war-ravaged city, visiting homes and a hospital, to provide an inside look at life near the front lines of war. Women's symptoms of heart disease and stroke are often overlooked, according to a new report from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Katherine Ward explains what's behind this, and why there's been so little progress in making any meaningful change. Dominic Barton, Canada's former ambassador to China and a former managing director with international consulting firm McKinsey, was grilled by a House of Commons committee over his involvement in $100 million worth of federal government contracts awarded to the company since 2015. David Akin reports on what Barton had to say, and how the contracts Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has handed out compare to former prime minister Stephen Harper's time in office. The claim is that if the front of the hull is penetrated in reality the whole tank will go up in smoke. Reports and video evidence show that 10 leopard tanks were destroyed by ISIS soldiers in Syria during one combat engagement. So what happened here? It could be that the Turkish army lacked the correct training and experience in combined arms warfare to deploy infantry around the tanks proximity in order to protect their armored vehicles vulnerable sides. Some versions of the Leopard do not have explosive reactive armor which means the Russian ATGM Kornet with a 600mm penetration rating would easily break through the armor. Written by: Chris Cappy and Josh Simpson Video Editing by: Savvy Studios The Leopard 2 features spaced multilayer armor that combines steel plates, elastic and non-metallic materials throughout. The front of the Leopard 2A4 has vertically faced turret armor that is approximately 31 inches thick or 780mm. It was estimated that these tanks can resist 125mm APFSDS rounds fired from about a mile away. The Leopard 2A5 and newer versions feature angled arrow-shaped turret applique armor that is 59 inches or 1500 mm thick. So over time the tank has evolved to be fitted with more and more heavy armor. But one of NATOs main advantages with their equipment remains their battlefield management computer systems which are unmatched by Russia. Russian forces have to rely on static filled radio transmissions and paper maps to plan operations. Written by : Chris Cappy and Josh Simpson Edited by : Michael Michaelides Meanwhile the Leopard tank gives commanders a full picture and better real time understanding of the battlefield. The tank is equipped with the German EMES 15 fire control system that has a laser rangefinder as well as thermographic and infrared cameras. The laser rangefinder has a maximum range of 10,000 meters (6.2 miles) with a measuring accuracy within 10 meters at this range. The combined system provides the ability to hit moving targets up to 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) away while the Leopard 2 is itself on the move. #UKRAINE #GERMANY #TANK Task & Purpose is a military news and culture oriented channel. Ukraine reportedly took help of US aircraft and Starlink internet to conduct its strikes on Russian air bases in December. Russian military analysis portal Rybar claims that Ukraine used Tupolev Tu-141 Strizh drones to attack the Russian bases. Kyiv reportedly used satellite internet and on-ground intelligence for its attacks at the Engels and Dyagilevo air bases on Dec. 5 and 26. However, the December 26 attack was partially successful, with Russia shooting down one drone that killed three servicemen. The Tu-141 Strizh is over 47 feet long and weighs over 5000 kilograms, which damaged a Tu-95 bomber in the strike. Rybar has released an illustrative video that explains how careful observation of Russian air defences revealed certain gaps. Vladimir Putin was sure that Russia would win the war in Ukraine within days by capturing Kyiv. Then he was sure Russia would be victorious by laying siege to cities around the country. Now he appears to be sure that Russia can hold southern Ukraine long enough for conscripts, supplies, and reinforcements to reach his forces before a Ukrainian offensive can break his lines. At the beginning of the war, Putin was close to winning. CNN's Fred Pleitgen gets a firsthand look at how Ukrainian troops are fighting against Russian soldiers in the eastern part of Ukraine. #CNN #News
Kherson was the first major city in Ukraine to be occupied by the Russian army. Since the beginning of March, the residents of the port city located in the south of the country were subjected to the terror and arbitrariness of the occupiers. All access to Kherson was blocked, and the city suffered from a shortage of medicines, food, and cash. Thousands of people fled and there was scant news about those who had stayed behind. Ukrainian television was no longer received, replaced instead by Russian state channels. Strict exit restrictions were also imposed. After more than eight months Russian forces withdrew from Kherson on 11 November 2022. But the horror of occupation will long be remembered. The film uses eyewitness accounts to describe the first days of the Russian invasion and gives a frightening impression of everyday life under occupation. #documentary #dwdocumentary DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Russian forces in Ukraine have so far only captured one major city - Kherson. DW's Nick Connolly has been in touch with a local, who wants to be known as James, who has been in Kherson since the beginning of the war and the start of the Russian occupation. Ukrainian troops have regained full control of the entire territory in the Kyiv region, according to Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar. "The whole Kyiv region is liberated from the invader," she said in a Facebook post. French news agency AFP has reported that the bodies of at least 20 men dressed in civilian clothing have been found lying in a street of a retaken town near Kyiv. According to the agency one of the men's hands were tied behind his back. The discovery was made in the town of Bucha, which was recently retaken after Russian troops withdrew. The cause of death of those found was not clear, although at least one of those found had a head wound. Ukrainian presidential advisor Oleksiy Arestovych said on national television Saturday that heavy battles are expected in the east and south of the country as well as in the besieged city of Mariupol. Arestovych also said Ukraine had retaken 30 towns in the Kyiv region from Russian forces and was holding the line against Russia in the east. "Let us have no illusions," he said. Waves of Russian troops are being "crushed" during a fresh assault on a strategically important town in eastern Ukraine.
