FREE GUIDE!!!! We'll show you exactly how we were able to stay in an overwater bungalow in Moorea for completely free and how you can, too! Click the link here to get your guide: 🤍 Cost of Living In Moorea 2021 On your way to Moorea, you'll likely have to spend one night in Papeete, Tahiti. Your flight will land in Tahiti and unfortunately there probably won't be any more ferries or planes servicing the island. You'll need to wait until morning. A night in Papeete can cost anywhere from $45-150 per night including accommodation (Airbnb or hotel - Airbnb will be cheaper) and a taxi. Ask your hotel or Airbnb host to set up a taxi for you. We recommend staying near the ferry because you'll be able to walk to the ferry in the morning. To get to Moorea, you can fly or take the ferry. The flight will cost between $100-400. The ferry, on the other hand, will cost $11-15 one way. It will take 45 minutes to get to Moorea from Papeete on the ferry. We highly recommend taking the ferry over to Moorea because it's a lot easier. You can find out more information about the ferry from Tahiti to Moorea in our blog post here: 🤍 Accommodation on Moorea will cost anywhere from $50 per night (for a hostel bed or private room in an Airbnb) to well over $1000 per night for an overwater bungalow. You can find out all of the details about the best places to stay, which neighborhoods are the most convenient, and which Airbnbs have the best value in our blog post here: 🤍 Taxis on Moorea: we HIGHLY recommend Tamatoa Taxi. We used his service several times and he was so friendly, honest, and knowledgeable about the island. You can reach him here: Phone + Whatsapp: +689 87 21 23 24 Email: lihip.tam🤍gmail.com He speaks fluent English and will reply via message or phone call. Rental car on Moorea will cost approximately $1000 per month. Renting a scooter will cost around $700 per month. These will be more expensive if you rent them by the day or by the week. Ebikes are also a fantastic way to discover Moorea. We recommend eBike Moorea. It will cost about $50 per day for one bike. For all the information about prices for excursions, check out our post here: 🤍 If you have any other questions about what things may cost in Moorea, don't hesitate to leave a comment for us below! Enjoy Moorea! Believe it or not, travel blogging is a great way to earn a living while traveling the world. In 2020, we took our hobby blog and turned it into a 6-figure business. Do you have a cruise or travel bucket list? If so, should a French Polynesia cruise be on that list? In this I discuss the Tahiti and French Polynesia region and review what I think are the 4 pros and the 4 cons of cruising that I believe you should consider as you consider this as a cruising vacation option. I travelled to the region, which is pretty remote to explore. It takes well over 8 hours to fly from Los Angeles and the trip from Europe is 21 hours. It is very unique, different and beautiful. But, is it worth going all the way there? Find out what to expect and if I think you should add this to your travel and cruise bucket list - especially when there are so many other things you could have on your travel and cruise bucket list. Note: Some of the costs of my trip to French Polynesia were covered by Paul Gauguin Cruises and Air Tahiti Nui before making this video. Moorea island is the pride and joy of French Polynesia. She may be considered Tahiti's little sister, but she steals the spotlight every time. The island is a true reflection of the laid back Tahitian lifestyle and the warm, welcoming character of French Polynesia and its people. The attraction toward Moorea comes as no surprise; the island is a geographical marvel. Eight voluminous mountain peaks rise from its translucent lagoon, creating a distinctive and rugged silhouette visible from the western coast of Tahiti. Splitting the northern shore are two symmetrical bays: Cook's (Paopao) and Opunohu Bay. The island is roughly shaped like a heart from overhead; and in the theme of love and romance, Moorea is one of the top honeymoon destinations in Tahiti—second only to Bora Bora. To the visitor, Moorea appears as a tropical garden filled with silver pineapple fields, the main agricultural product of the island. In the midst of this fairytale landscape, light rays pierce the Mou’a Puta (“the pierced mountain”). Was it just natural eccentricity, or according to the legend, made by the arrow of the demigod Pai. All of these, along with Afareaitu’s waterfalls or the famous Cook and Opunohu Bays, make this a magical place to stay.Ancient hide out of the royal family, Tahiti’s sister island became the home of Protestantism upon the Europeans’ arrival. Everyone can go to the Sunday morning mass, where people gather dressed in their best outfits and women wear beautiful hats or flower crowns and sing rhythmic psalms. easytahiti.com _ © Copyright information: All music, sound effects, graphics, animations and video segments contained in my videos are used in strict compliance with the appropriate permissions and licenses required from 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍, 🤍 and 🤍 in accordance with the YouTube Partner Program, Community guidelines & YouTube terms of service. #moorea #tahiti #frenchpolynesia
Sailors for Sustainability #92 - Self-Sufficient on Taravai (PYF) On the French Polynesian island of Taravai, we meet a self-sufficient family. Their lifestyle not only makes them resilient in times of crises, but also provides sustainability benefits. More details about this sustainable solution are included in our article: 🤍 ⛵️ ⛵️ ⛵️ About Sailors for Sustainability We are Floris & Ivar, two sailors from the Netherlands 🇳🇱. We are on a sailing trip around the world in search of solutions to today’s sustainability challenges. It means that we look for examples in the fields of buildings, climate, community, economy, ecosystems, energy, nutrition, spirituality, and transportion that show that there are more sustainable or future-proof ways of doing things. By documenting proven solutions we strive to inspire people, companies and governments to change their habits and accelerate positive change. After looking deeper into crises such as climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, pollution, inequality, and human rights abuses, it became clear to us that fundamental change is necessary for humanity to survive. We made it our mission to highlight solutions that bring an ecologically sound and socially just society closer. Solutions that people can relate to and implement in their own lives. What excites us most is that we meet all these positive, passionate, inspiring people who are proving that a sustainable way of doing things is possible. It makes us hopeful for the future. Floris was trained as a lawyer 👨💼 and Ivar as an industrial engineer 👷♂️. We both had busy jobs but felt something was missing. We wanted to be more ecologically and socially engaged, experience different cultures, and see our planet's beautiful natural world. Ivar was living on a sailboat and always had a dream of sailing around the world. It seemed natural to combine the two, even more so because sailing is such a sustainable way to travel. Traveling slowly on wind energy is quite a carbon neutral way to get around. After many, many years of working on the boat, we finally left Amsterdam in 2016. Yet we left behind more than our hometown and family and friends. We also left behind jobs and the income and security that come with them. In return, we got adventure and the unknown! We didn’t know exactly where we would go, who we would meet, how the sailing would go, and if our project would be successful. So far, our route has taken us half-way around the world 🌏. We've documented over 50 sustainable solutions, and visited over 25 countries. They are like pieces of a large, complex jigsaw puzzle. As we collect more pieces, the contours of an ecologically sound and socially just society become better visible. Yet the puzzle is far from finished. We will continue our search for inspiring sustainable initiatives. There is still plenty to discover! After the challenging 12-day sail from Rapa Nui (Easter Island) to the Gambier Islands, we savored our first taste of French Polynesia. The Gambiers are rarely visited by cruisers because they are off the more popular “Coconut Milk Run” route from the Americas, wherein landfall is typically made in the northern island chain of the Marquesas. Despite having to tackle some rather unpleasant boat projects, we had plenty of fun and learned a lot! We hiked the second highest peak on the island of Mangareva, visited a pearl farm, and enjoyed the company of a local family and trio of young sailors who had taken up residence on the out-island of Taravai. Neil successfully speared his first fish, we got out the drone, and we spent a lot of time with our new friends on s/v Romano. If we have our druthers, we’ll get back there again…it was worth the long, lonely sail to get there! Read more about our time in the Gambier Islands, including our visit to Michel’s pearl farm, at the posts below. French Polynesia is such an amazing place and we are so grateful for the opportunity to go, but getting there is a little complicated so we are sharing the exact steps you need to take before departing. The very first thing before planning your trip to French Polynesia is to receive your vaccine. French Polynesia will not let you onto a departing plane without your vaccine, so make sure you receive you 2nd dose with plenty of time before you are scheduled to leave. There is also a list of paperwork needed, in order to board your plane. The health form is quick, but an essential step in order to start your ETIS form. The ETIS is long and tedious, but this allows the government to know you’re safe for traveling and must be completed between 6-30 days before departing. Once your ETIS has been reviewed, you will receive an email to pay your fee of 5000 XPF or about $50 USD. After this is completed, you’ll need to schedule a specific test, either a RT-PCR test 72 hours before departure or an Antigen test 48 hours before departure. Last, make sure you have all your documents printed out and ready to show to an agent at the airport so they can certify your records and you can receive your boarding pass. After that, it’s time to board the plane and enjoy paradise! Please be advised the information in this video may have changed since it was filmed. Thanks for watching! What's the most beautiful Island in French Polynesia? Most people go to Bora Bora or Tahiti, or even Rangiroa, but I found something even better. This atoll is known for shark diving, Manta rays, and one long stretch of island that is so thin, you can see from the Pacific to the lagoon just by turning your head. Under 900 people live there, and it's perfect, with one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen! Watch to see if you can catch the name! The Marquesas archipelago is wild, dramatic, chalk full of culture, history and natural beauty…especially in Taiohae, the capital of Nuku Hiva. But rather than trying to tell you about it, click the play button and join us for a few days. 🌟 Found an internet cafe near our anchorage (in Moorea), so we were able to upload at full 1080p and at a higher bitrate! If you notice a bump in viewing quality let us know in the comments! It cost about $10 to upload and only took 80 minutes for the 1.5 GB file. If anyone can tell a difference we'll try to upload here again! Decently fast internet brings me 😂 (tears of joy). It’s made up of 118 islands and 5 archipelagos. Although we commonly refer to the entire group of islands as Tahiti, it’s actually only one of the many islands that make up French Polynesia. It’s stretching over an expanse of more than 2,000 kilometres in the South Pacific Ocean. Its total land area is 4,167 square kilometres. 2. French Polynesia was one of the last places on Earth to be settled by humans. Scientists believe the Great Polynesian Migration happened around 1500 BC as Austronesian people went on a journey using celestial navigation to find islands in the South Pacific Ocean. The first islands of French Polynesia to be settled were the Marquesas Islands in about 200 BC. Following the Great Polynesian Migration, European explorers visited the islands of French Polynesia on several occasions. In 1842, the French took over the islands and established a French protectorate they called French Establishments in Oceania. In 1946, the EFOs became an overseas territory under the constitution of the French Fourth Republic, and Polynesians were granted the right to vote through citizenship. In 1957, the EFOs were renamed French Polynesia. Since 28 March 2003, French Polynesia has been an overseas collectivity of the French Republic under the constitutional revision of article 74, and later gained, with law 2004-192 of 27 February 2004, an administrative autonomy, two symbolic manifestations of which are the title of the President of French Polynesia and its additional designation as an overseas country. 3. Papeete is the capital of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France in the Pacific Ocean, located on the island of Tahiti. The growth of the city was boosted by the decision to move the nuclear weapon test range from Algeria to the atolls of Mururoa and Fangataufa, some 1,500 km to the east of Tahiti; this originated in particular in the construction of the Faa'a airport next to Pape'ete, the only international airport in French Polynesia. 4. Beautiful black pearls are indigenous only in the Tuomotu Islands of French Polynesia. The Pearl Museum on Tahiti is the only museum in the world devoted entirely to pearls. The unique presentations about Tahitian Cultured Pearls describe and demonstrate the history and practice of cultivating pearls as well as their place in art, history, mythology, and religion. 5. French Polynesia is home to the most photographed isle in the South Pacific. A short distance from Bora Bora lies Motu Tapu, which is said to be the most photographed isle in the South Pacific. Surrounded by pristine white sands and a turquoise lagoon, it was once a private retreat for the Polynesian Queen Pomare IV. 6. The letter "B" does not exist in the Tahitian language. Bora Bora is actually Pora Pora, meaning first born, but early visitors heard it as Bora Bora. There are 13 letters in the Tahitian alphabet. The Tahitian alphabet has all of the same vowels as the Latin alphabet—a, e, i, o and u—but only eight consonants—f, h, m, n, p, r, t and v. The Tahitian language was purely oral until the early 19th century. 7. The word “tattoo” comes from Tahiti. The word originates from the Tahitian word tatau. It’s thought to date back as far as 1500 BC. Tattoos have been an integral part of Tahitian society and wider ancient Polynesian history and were often symbols of rank, wealth, tribe or family group. 11 HOUR VERSION 🤍 🤍 | 4K AERIAL VIDEOS 🤍 🤍 | WATCH ON-DEMAND 🤍 🤍 | BUY/LICENSE 🤍 🤍 | ABOUT THIS FILM: From the cinematographer: "The footage for this film was shot over a period of some years in French Polynesia, Micronesia, Indonesia and East Timor. Unfortunately there are not that vibrant anymore today. Coral reefs have suffered from the rise of water temperature, rise in acidity, destructive fishing methods and severe storms caused by climate change." - Peter Schneider. "Rainbow Reef Relaxation" is a 3-hour long, sweeping yet majestic & vibrant underwater journey to the world's most beautiful lagoons, as captured by Nature Relaxation collaborator Peter Schneider (Underwatercam) paired with ambient underwater sounds and brand new ambient music by the Cynic Project. Filmed in High Definition several years ago, thanks to its age this film offers magical glimpses of an underwater world that is bursting with life, color, and beauty. Unfortunately, reefs today in most of the world are suffering from severe bleaching and so with this film we hope to raise awareness by showcasing the divine beauty that only pristine underwater reefs can present, in hopes that it will motivate the viewer to take action and help save them before its too late! (🤍 NO MUSIC VERSION 🤍 🤍 | More from Peter S: "We all know that nowadays! This gives us the privilege and also duty to change and rethink our role in nature. What we also know today is that everything is connected and we are all a part of Nature, yes we are nature. So we don’t have to save the world, but recognize it as family. What we do to the world, the world will give it back to us. Equally the good and the bad things, that is law. The good news in it is, ...it is all up to you and me and everyone. You matter, I matter because we are all belonging to the same family. Now take a deep breath and join us for a dive beneath the waves."
