On a super rare weather window I grabbed the big pack and dropped off the grid for a couple of days in the hope of finding some summer fishing in a remote valley somewhere. Dry Fly fishing with big terrestrials for brown trout is easily one of the most exciting types of fly fishing you can do. Seeing a big wild brown trout come up and take a hopper off of the surface is almost unmatched... even streamer fishing occasionally takes a back seat. In this video Andrew took out a hopper and hit a small local creek in hopes of catching some wild brown trout... and he wasn't disappointed! He even caught his biggest ever fish out of the creek coming in at 20 inches. Hope you enjoy the video! Please like, comment, and subscribe for weekly videos!

Is This The Simplest Dry Fly in the World To Tie? Well it’s a pretty easy one to tie if you follow this step-by-step. And the result is perhaps one of the most effective imitations of an olive you’ll find anywhere. Subtle changes in hook size, and maybe the colour of the dubbing you use, will cover almost any eventuality. But simply, the ‘Simple Olive’ is a pattern that deserves a place in your dry fly box for almost any still water or river situation. Here it’s tied in a Size 14, but go bigger on a 12, or smaller on 16, 18 or 20 to give you the option you need to match the hatch. Materials: Hook: Hanak 130 BL in 14, 16, 18 or 20 Tying Thread: Olive Nanosilk Tail: 3 x Coq de Leon Fibres Wing: 3 x CDC feathers tips aligned (use 2 x feathers on Sizes 18’s and 20) Dubbing: Semperfli Kapok Olive Dun Hackle: Tip of a a small feather from a grizzle cape Head: Pinch of Fox Squirrel

The Adams dry fly is one of the most popular dry flies ever created for good reason. It mimics a mayfly perfectly and has proven itself throughout many years of fishing. It is widely effective on many rivers and creeks, and will continue to be for many years to come, if not forever! One of the catskill style flies, this will float high when heavily hackled, has a nice profile, and can be tied in a wide range of sizes. I regularly tie 16-20 with these, but I know of some people tying all the way down to a size 26 and up to a size 10. If you get a Cree hackle, then you can use just one feather rather than two. However cree tends to be much more expensive, so I tie with the double feather method to achieve the brown and grizzly look. As always I am listing the materials I used on this fly. I am also including links to these products and a discount code for the fly artist where you can pick up these materials at a very high discount! Griffiths Gnats are a classic pattern that is very simple to tie and also very effective. These only require two materials besides the thread and hooks. That is dry fly hackle, and peacock hurl. They look like a cluster of midges together on the top of the water. Trout will target these clusters because it makes for a larger meal if they can eat more than just one midge. Obviously midges are small, so there isn't much nutrients in just one. But a cluster of midges can provide a decent meal for a rising trout. Another way to fish this fly is use it as an indicator of sorts for another small dry fly, or an emerger. Many of these tiny dry flies are very hard to see on the surface of the water. You almost have to guess when the fish comes up and sips it. But a larger Griffiths gnat will allow you to see when it goes under, to know when a trout takes the smaller fly. I used risen hooks here, also their hurl. Very good quality hooks for the money. They also sell beads at an amazing price for the quality of them. All their stuff, even their rods and reels and line are amazing quality, top notch, but for a reasonable price. Check them out at 🤍risenfly.com, and make sure you type in my discount. The search for 'dry fly heaven' took place a few seasons back with regular client/buddy Kresten Ovesen from Denmark. I only just recently got around to editing the footage of what was a great trip, with the majority of fish (as the title would suggest!) eating dry flies. I managed to drown my main camera half way through, but was able to use my Canon 5D to capture some cool moments over the second half of the adventure. I think it captures the essence of adventure angling and trust you'll enjoy the rugged nature of the surroundings and quality of fish caught. Cheers, Mike. PLEASE also LIKE SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT. #flyfishingadventures #flyfishinglife #flytying #FlyFishing #flyfishingphotography 🤍

Fly Fishing Spring Creeks around southwest Montana over the years has become one of my favorite things to do when the river temps are too warm to fish. This past summer I made some plans to go find cooler water. I was invited back to one of my favorite places on earth, to meet a couple of friends capturing the hopper hatch together in full swing. The smoke was thick from summer wildfires in the Rockies, and the conditions were tough to film in. But the fish were ready and eager to take a fly each time I set up my position with the camera, and the anglers were successful most every cast. Spring creeks are an angler’s (and camera operator’s) dream… if you have the patience. These two friends had a blast fishing the Spring Creek magic. It was certainly one of the highlights of my summer! When life offers you the chance to go outside, have some fun and enjoy the river with a friend, you better do it! I was lucky enough to capture it on film. Hope you enjoy this fun, fly fishing adventure!
