C-5M Super Galaxy military aircraft in action, the largest aircraft in the US Air Force. The Lockheed C-5 Super Galaxy is a large military transport aircraft designed and built by Lockheed, and now maintained and upgraded by its successor, Lockheed Martin. It provides the United States Air Force (USAF) with a heavy intercontinental-range strategic airlift capability, one that can carry outsized and oversized loads, including all air-certifiable cargo. The C-5 Super Galaxy has many similarities to the smaller Lockheed C-141 Starlifter and the later Boeing C-17 Globemaster III. The C-5 Super Galaxy is among the largest military aircraft in the world. We got an inside look at the United States Air Force’s 7.5-week basic military training, or BMT, program. Insider spent four days at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, observing different squadrons at various stages of training. Trainees are instructed in marksmanship, drill, and battlefield first aid. The program culminates in week six with an event known as BEAST (Basic Expeditionary Airman Skills Training). During BEAST week, trainees live in a simulated combat environment and are tested in various field training exercises and scenarios. We talked to trainees and members of Air Force leadership about the lessons taught in Air Force BMT, along with the humorous nickname bestowed on the Air Force by members of other branches: “Chair Force.” MORE BOOT CAMP VIDEOS: What New Air Force Cadets Go Through On Day One At The Academy | Boot Camp 🤍 What Army Paratroopers Go Through At Airborne School | Boot Camp 🤍 How Marine Corps Drill Instructors Are Trained | Boot Camp 🤍 #AirForce #Bootcamp #BusinessInsider Business Insider tells you all you need to know about business, finance, tech, retail, and more. The skies over the Netherlands darkened as a force of over 376 B-17 Flying Fortresses soared in somber formation towards the German border. The strategic bombing mission was of unparalleled scale and reach; the bombers were to pierce the very industrial heart of Germany and pummel the Luftwaffe's manufacturing capabilities in preparation for D-Day. Squadrons of P-47 Thunderbolts ascended from nearby airfields to escort the big bombers as they entered German airspace, and as if called on cue, droves of German Messerschmitt Bf 109s swooped down from the clouds and clashed against them. As one Flying Fortress fell from the sky after another, the smaller fighters swarmed each other amid fire, bullets, and smoke. After what seemed like an eternity, the Germans finally retreated. But minutes later, more German fighters appeared on the horizon. By then, the Thunderbolts had reached their fuel limit, and they could not escort the bombers any further. With a heavy heart, the P-47 pilots turned back and reluctantly abandoned the Flying Fortresses as they plunged into one of the darkest chapters of World War 2… - Join Dark Skies as we explore the world of aviation with cinematic short documentaries featuring the biggest and fastest airplanes ever built, top-secret military projects, and classified missions with hidden untold true stories. USAF Special Operations Combat Controller and Weather Candidates Training. USAF Special Operations Forces SOF Combat Control Team & Special Reconnaissance Candidates Combat Controller and Combat Weather candidates perform a jungle run conducted in Joint Base San Antonio - Medina. The jungle run is conducted by the Battlefield Airmen Training Group, 37th Training Wing, AETC. United States Air Force Combat Control Teams, singular Combat Controller (CCT) (AFSC 1Z2X1), are American special operations forces (specifically known as "special tactics operators") who specialize in all aspects of air-ground communication, including air traffic control, fire support (including fixed and rotary wing close air support), and command, control, and communications in covert, forward, or austere environments. Special Reconnaissance (SR)—formerly Special Operations Weather Technician or Team (SOWT)—is conducted by trained Air Force personnel assigned to Special Tactics Squadrons of the United States Air Force Special Operations Command who operate deep behind enemy lines to conduct covert direction of air and missile attacks, place remotely monitored sensors, and support other special operation units. Training for Special Operations Weathermen takes place in a 61-week course. Like other special operations units, SR units may also carry out direct action (DA) and unconventional warfare (UW), including guerrilla operations. As SOWT they were tactical observer/forecasters with ground combat capabilities and fell under the Air Force Special Tactics within the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). The mission of a Special Operations Weather Team Specialist was to deploy by the most feasible means available into combat and non-permissive environments to collect and interpret meteorological data and provide air and ground forces commanders with timely, accurate intelligence. They collect data, assist mission planning, generate accurate and mission-tailored target and route forecasts in support of global special operations, conduct special weather reconnaissance and train foreign national forces. SOWTs provided vital intelligence and deployed with joint air and ground forces in support of direct action, counter-terrorism, foreign internal defense, humanitarian assistance, special reconnaissance, austere airfield, and combat search and rescue. #shorts Incredible comparison: Air force! USA vs. Russia (to smithereens) ! p.s. (U.S. Air Force aircraft only, no Army, Navy, Marine Corps) An air force – in the broadest sense – is the national military branch that primarily conducts aerial warfare. More specifically, it is the branch of a nation's armed services that is responsible for aerial warfare as distinct from an army or navy. Typically, air forces are responsible for gaining control of the air, carrying out strategic and tactical bombing missions, and providing support to land and naval forces often in the form of aerial reconnaissance and close air support. #YouTubeShorts ❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️ More news, photos and videos on my TG: 🤍 ❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️ ✌️❤️️ Military Girl - A blog about what is happening in the military sphere around the world! Originally created on August 1, 1907 as a part of the United States Army Signal Corps, the USAF was established as a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces in 1947 with the passing of the National Security Act of 1947. It is the second youngest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces[a] and the fourth in order of precedence. The U.S. Air Force articulates its core missions as air supremacy, global integrated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, rapid global mobility, global strike, and command and control. The U.S. Air Force is a military service branch organized within the Department of the Air Force, one of the three military departments of the Department of Defense. The Air Force through the Department of the Air Force is headed by the civilian Secretary of the Air Force, who reports to the Secretary of Defense and is appointed by the President with Senate confirmation. The highest-ranking military officer in the Air Force is the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, who exercises supervision over Air Force units and serves as one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As directed by the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Air Force, certain Air Force components are assigned to unified combatant commands. Combatant commanders are delegated operational authority of the forces assigned to them, while the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force retain administrative authority over their members. Along with conducting independent air operations, the U.S. Air Force provides air support for land and naval forces and aids in the recovery of troops in the field. As of 2017, the service operates more than 5,369 military aircraft and 406 ICBMs. It has a $156.3 billion budget and is the second largest service branch, with 329,614 active duty airmen, 172,857 civilian personnel, 69,056 reserve airmen, and 107,414 Air National Guard airmen The Russian Air Force (Russian: Военно-воздушные силы России, tr. Voyenno-vozdushnye sily Rossii, VVS) is a branch of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the latter being formed on 1 August 2015 with the merging of the Russian Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. The modern Russian Air Force was originally established on 7 May 1992 following Boris Yeltsin's creation of the Ministry of Defence. However, the Russian Federation's air force can trace its lineage and traditions back to the Imperial Russian Air Service (1912–1917) and the Soviet Air Forces (1918–1991). The Russian Navy has its own independent air arm, the Russian Naval Aviation, which is the former Soviet Aviatsiya Voyenno-morskogo Flota (lit. "Aviation of the military-sea fleet"), or AVMF.
