Earth From Space Live Video: 🤍 Amazing astronomy video showing ESO’s HAWK-I infrared instrument on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile which has been used to peer deeper into the heart of Orion Nebula than ever before. The spectacular picture reveals about ten times as many brown dwarfs and isolated planetary-mass objects than were previously known. This discovery poses challenges for the widely accepted scenario for Orion’s star formation history. An international team has made use of the power of the HAWK-I infrared instrument on ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) to produce the deepest and most comprehensive view of the Orion Nebula [1] to date. Not only has this led to an image of spectacular beauty, but it has revealed a great abundance of faint brown dwarfs and isolated planetary-mass objects. The very presence of these low-mass bodies provides an exciting insight into the history of star formation within the nebula itself. Credit: ESO/H. Drass et al./N. Risinger (skysurvey.org)/M. I would be very glad if you would share my work :) To watch in original quality goto "Settings" → "Quality" and "1440p or better 2160p 4K" ► Interesting facts: "The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south[b] of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1,344 ± 20 light years and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The M42 nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. It has a mass of about 2000 times the mass of the Sun. Older texts frequently refer to the Orion Nebula as the Great Nebula in Orion or the Great Orion Nebula. The Orion Nebula is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky, and is among the most intensely studied celestial features. The nebula has revealed much about the process of how stars and planetary systems are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust. Astronomers have directly observed protoplanetary disks, brown dwarfs, intense and turbulent motions of the gas, and the photo-ionizing effects of massive nearby stars in the nebula. There are also supersonic "bullets" of gas piercing the hydrogen clouds of the Orion Nebula. Each bullet is ten times the diameter of Pluto's orbit and tipped with iron atoms glowing bright blue. They were probably formed one thousand years ago from an unknown violent event." - from Wikipedia.org ► If you are a geek ;) and want to download the picture as desktop wallpaper; here is the link but caution TIFF file about 385 MB! 🤍 -you can also visit the "Hubble Heritage Gallery of Images" for more beautiful images of our universe - 🤍 ► Credit: NASA, ESA, and The Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA) Image by "NASA,ESA, M. This is a journey through the cosmic scale of the Universe to The Orion Nebula. A wonder in the depths of space that can be seen with our eyes alone, hiding in the constellation of Orion, looking like a star. If you'd like to support my ongoing project to make educational films about the Universe like this one do please check out my Patreon here: 🤍 I'll be posted behind the scenes footage and will be putting some of my patrons in the next video! I hope to make these videos full time in the future so all the support is massively appreciated. Otherwise if you enjoyed the video do please consider subscribing by clicking the link here: 🤍 There are few places if any in the Universe more beautiful than a nebula and The Orion Nebula is a particularly beautiful one. When I was a kid I couldn't believe a star in the constellation I was always looking at, Orion, wasn't actually a star. It led me to want to learn more about the Universe beyond the stars and I hope this film can do a little of that for others too. It took me about 6 months to make this, my 2nd video about the Universe and even longer to make the 1st! If you haven't already, do please take a look at my first video where I shrank the Universe down, then turned it into cereal, so that its titanic size makes more sense, plus who doesn't want to eat the Universe with some milk? Fortunately I'm getting faster at making these and hope to make the next one in 2 months rather than 6, then hopefully I'll be able to make them at a once a month speed after that. For those interested in the technicalities of how I made this, you can find me on Instagram here 🤍 where I show some of my behind the scenes. I've been teaching myself VFX from scratch for a little over a year with Blender, a wonderful, powerful (and free!) programme, so that I could make these films. I also used a motion capture suit from Rokoko to get the micromovements as I presented. I think for my next video I'll move around a little more as I get more comfortable with the suit. I'm a filmmaker and director of photography as my day job and I've wanted to make videos about Space for ages but just didn't have the VFX skills, so my journey with Blender over the last 14 months has been amazing, I'd highly recommend it. 15-Minute Beginner's Guide to Processing the Orion Nebula in Adobe Photoshop

This tutorial will show beginner astrophotographers how to quickly and efficiently process the Orion Nebula, Messier 42. This will focus on a stack of images that are all the same length (in the case of this video, 30 seconds). The core of the Orion Nebula is blown out in the vast majority of astroimages, which is just fine. Here I show a simple way to tone down the overexposed core, while retaining detail. There are definitely more advanced processing methods. This is just a basic guide for those getting started. I'm fortunate to live in dark skies, so I don't have to do much processing of my astroimages. This spectacular image of the Orion Nebula star-formation region was obtained from multiple exposures using the HAWK-I infrared camera on ESO’s Very Large Telescope in Chile. This is the deepest view ever of this region and reveals more very faint planetary-mass objects than expected. #orion #nebula #infrared #hubbletelescope Credit: ESO/H. Drass et al.

Can you get a decent photo of a nebula like M42 out of just a single exposure without stacking? I didn't think so but I tried and was quite surprised. Sure the result is not super clean but surprisingly good with no stacking and fancy processing and on top of that - shot under light polluted city sky (Bortle 7). Check out this short video to see how I pulled it off. Digiscoping the Orion Nebula using Binoculars and a Smartphone

In this video i use a smartphone, a smartphone adapter and a pair of 10x50 binoculars to image Messier 42, the Orion Nebula. I'll explain how to attach the camera to the binoculars, how to setup a camera app to control exposure, speed and file format, and how to use multiple frames to make a single image of the nebula. I used a pair of Celestron Upclose G2 binoculars and the ProCam 8 smartphone camera app. It's an unusual form of digiscoping, but it works with a little careful setup and practice. Note: The ProCam app is only available for iPhones but there are many good camera apps for Android phones including HD Camera Pro.

I used my Celestron RASA 8-inch telescope and ZWO ASI533MC one-shot-color (OSC) camera to capture the Orion Nebula. The Orion Nebula is situated in the Milky Way, being south of Orion's Belt (it makes up part of the sword) in the constellation of Orion. The nebula can be seen with the naked eye and looks like a star. It's 1,350 light-years from Earth. Here is the astrophotography equipment used to capture Orion below: Imaging Telescope: Celestron RASA 8-inch Imaging Camera: ZWO ASI533MC Mount: Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Polar Alignment: QHYCCD PoleMaster Filters: Optolong L-Pro Guide Scope: ZWO 60mm Guide Scope Guide Camera: ZWO ASI224MC Guide Software: PHD2 Capture software: Sequence Generator Pro (SGP) Stacking software: DeepSkyStacker Post Processing: PixInsight, PhotoShop Dew Shield, Dew Heater Strip
