What do you do when your dreams of becoming an artist aren't working out? In this very personal video I take a look the role luck played in turning my career round, and how, on reflection it wasn't actually luck at all, but something much more important. I tried to uses royalty free music for this, but wasn't happy with the feel, so I won't be getting any ad revenue for this one. Do you want credits, awards, making a living, a following, respect, validation? Yes? Then 1) Decide. 2) Live in a state of abundance. 3) Set a plan to get those goals. 4) Enjoy the Journey. It’s a journey! And it’s gonna be a long ride. So make sure to enjoy it. Surround yourself with those who empower you. Those who elevate you. We talked about the moment in your life when you say: “This is it! This is who I am. This is what I want. This is what I’m gonna do right now.” As a composer, this doesn’t (necessarily) need to be: “I’m gonna win an Oscar for Best Music” Not even, “I wanna make a living writing music”. These goals may get you caught up doing projects that you don’t like but let you pay bills (a.k.a. selling your soul… doing stuff you don’t really wanna do) Ultimately, what we want... is the feeling of ACCOMPLISHMENT. Accomplishment –as a composer– comes in many forms and shapes. For some of you, it may mean CREDITS. For others, getting PAID. Or having a FOLLOWING. The RESPECT of your peers, VALIDATION, etc. Ultimately, you’re in search of ACKNOWLEDGMENT. Well... I’m here to tell you that you can have this right now. How? Understand this: We all do things because we want to FEEL a certain way. We want that feeling. And so we do things to get closer to that feeling. –“When I get on that project, then I’ll feel accomplished" –“If I get so many likes/comments, then it means I have influence and I’ll feel RESPECT" –“If I make a living writing music, then I’ll feel I’m a real composer" The problem with that is that once you achieve what you needed to achieve to feel that way… the moment is going to be so brief (compared to the effort you put in the first place) that you’re gonna go –“Is this all there is?” It’s an “if-then”, “cause-and-effect” quid pro quo standard that we cannot sustain because we immediately raise it every time we attain it. The alternative? How you FEEL is a choice. Not a consequence. Yes. Set your goals. But do NOT work towards ACHIEVING those goals fo feel good. Instead, work to ENJOY THE JOURNEY. Do you want credits, awards, making a living, a following, respect, validation? Yes? Then 1) decide. 2) Live in a state of abundance. 3) Set a plan to get those goals. 4) Enjoy the journey. It’s a journey, you guys! And it’s gonna be a long ride. So make sure to enjoy it. Surround yourself with those who empower you. Those who elevate you. Those who see greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself. #EnjoyTheJourney #Composer #GoalSetting

I've featured Yngwie's music 5 times previously, but it's been more than a year! In addition to hearing Yngwie's original recording, we're also taking a look at Ayu Gusfanz and her cover of the same song. She is a young Indonesian virtuoso, and I was quite impressed with her playing. Come along for the ride! Joseph Haydn: Life and work of an underestimated composer | Music Documentary

Joseph Haydn (1732 – 1809) was a genius and was celebrated during his lifetime – but to this day, he remains in the shadow of Mozart and Beethoven. Maybe that is because he lived a life without scandal or financial difficulties, so he did not fit the later picture of what a musical genius was. However, his works have certainly stood the test of time. His almost 100 symphonies, the two oratorios The Seasons and The Creation, the string quartets and his piano music served as templates for later composers and are an essential part of the repertoire of musicians today. The documentary 'Joseph Haydn: Libertine & His Master’s Servant' from 2009 is a kind of road movie that follows the trail of Haydn and visits all the locations of his life and work. The result is a comprehensive picture of this great composer, which also integrates his works. The portrait of Haydn is complemented by informative descriptions from renowned musicologists and interpreters of Haydn such as conductor Sir Roger Norrington, baritone Thomas Quasthoff and pianist Ragna Schirmer. This music documentary is an extensive source of material for anyone who would like to know who Joseph Haydn was, what role he played during his lifetime and what the nature of his continuing huge significance is. It gives almost a complete picture of this great composer of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Here's Joseph Haydn in a 54-minute-long nutshell.
