Friends, at the Regional Congress 2.0 Teach event, I presented on the importance of not dumbing down the faith as we engage in religious education. Young people enjoy asking about and discussing the big questions, from God’s existence, to how to be a good and moral person, to the problem of suffering. A disconnect takes place when we meet these intellectual questions with watered-down catechesis. Instead, we must remember the central teachings of Christianity. We must present the fullness of truth, the reality of the Incarnation, and the good news of grace. ———WATCH——— Subscribe to this Channel: 🤍bit.ly/31LV1sn Word on Fire Institute Channel: 🤍bit.ly/2voBZMD Word on Fire en Español Channel: 🤍bit.ly/2uFowjl ———WORD ON FIRE——— Word on Fire: 🤍🤍wordonfire.org/ FREE Daily Gospel Reflections (English or Español): 🤍dailycatholicgospel.com/ ———SOCIAL MEDIA——— Bishop Barron Instagram: 🤍bit.ly/2Sn2XgD Bishop Barron Facebook: 🤍bit.ly/2Sltef5 Bishop Barron Twitter: 🤍bit.ly/2Hkz6yQ Word on Fire Instagram: 🤍bit.ly/39sGNyZ Word on Fire Facebook: 🤍bit.ly/2HmpPpW Word on Fire Twitter: 🤍bit.ly/2UKO49h Word on Fire en Español Instagram: 🤍bit.ly/38mqofD Word on Fire en Español Facebook: 🤍bit.ly/2SlthaL Word on Fire en Español Twitter: 🤍bit.ly/38n3VPt ———SUPPORT WORD ON FIRE——— Donate: 🤍🤍wordonfire.org/donate/ Word on Fire Store: 🤍store.wordonfire.org/ Pray: 🤍bit.ly/2vqU7Ft

It is a blessing that when suffering occurs we can turn to God and cry to God all the injustice and unfairness and heartbreak, nobody can do that quite as well and God takes the blame .and we don't dyart pointing the finger of blame at each other.

Thank you Bishop Baron for your teachings. I've just started going to mass again. After the pandemic I found it difficult to get going. Actually my two young adult daughters kept saying Mom you have to go back to church. They like most young adults questions religion but they also say better in church than out of church. I feel so good having returned and I'm still perplexed about why I found it so hard to get going. I'm thankful that God used by daughters to help me. They are 27 and 33.

What about just knowing right from wrong? Knowing that I shouldn’t make anybody feel less than human because I wouldn’t want that done to me. Regardless of religion, I know to not make someone feel horrible for the simple fact, I wouldn’t want that done to me. Is it that complicated?

My kids are lucky I guess their mom is an engineer and I am constantly learning and I explain everything as thoroughly as I can for them when they have questions on physical science and on faith. These talks help to fuel that.

It's quite normal for young people to disaffiliate from the church and go their own way. It's easy and tempting to do when you're young, strong, healthy, bright future ahead of you, and you think you've got it all figured out. It happens in all denominations. They are not really disaffiliating, they are running from God, but little do they know they are running into the loving arms of Jesus Christ who loves them more than they could know. The church needs to be solid and steady in their teachings. Instill the correct messages at a young age and they will resonate long term.

KARMA is about past lives and reincarnation NOT what comes around goes around ... Also, "we've never had this before" (around 56 minutes) about people walking away from the faith ... Wasn't that the whole reason for Vatican II ?

That is the three arguments/ questions taught by the proponents of the atheist religion, to challenge believers.
Atheism has its own teachers that got to them first.

primal moral truth, objective moral value about which bishop talks is only "the golden rule" ("Treat others as you would like others to treat you") which we can find in almost all cultures before and after Christ, but all other morals are different from culture to culture. BUT that rule, which actually talks about love, is differently interpreted in every culture: somewhere it is extented to whole nature and all living beings, somewhere just to humans, and somewhere it means just "be kind to your fellow neighbour, but not to other nations/tribes". so, there's no universal moral. moral is human invention to make order in society, and it's needed.

I feel sad when I read people saying they think its just an off switch when we die. That might very well be the case but I don't believe that at all. Maybe they hope that's what happens. Accountability is a bitch!

Even children perceive the dumbing down of religion (and other subjects) and find it insulting to their intelligence. I was the perennial room mom and would often hear the kids mocking the religious books’ attempts to appeal to them with “cool” kid language and silly pictures. I was also the librarian and when choosing stories to read to them, I often chose older books with few or no illustrations. Despite the lack of “coolness,” those stories resonated with the students. Thank you, Bishop Barron, for respecting their intellects.
